Re: Hypoallergenic Dogs

This is our baby Murphy...he is a Westie (West Highland White Terrier). This breed is great with children, easy to train, and hypo-allergenic! He has hair, not fur.

The only drawback to this breed is that he needs to go to the groomer about once every 6-8 weeks, so hyperallergenic, yes, low maintainance, no. But he's so worth it!!!!!

My mom has a mini dacshund who is very, very well-trained and soooo cute! I believe dachsunds are hypoallergenic. They don't shed much and I don't think they have fur - just hair.

I'm in the same boat...LOVE dogs but have always been allergic. My parents had a poodle (also named Lucky!) when I was growing up and I was even allergic to him...in fact, it was so bad, I missed most of the first grade b/c I was always out with what they thought was bronchitis (didn't know I was even allergic at the time!)

I finally bit the bullet and have been getting allergy shots...a big pain, but I think they are working. My parents have a bichon frise now (Calvin...VERY cute; I wish I had a pic to post!!) that I do very well with. The real test is my FILs who have a cocker spaniel that I was EXTREMELY allergic to, but now not as much with the shots.

FH and I really want to get a dog ourselves sometime soon (definitely before kids!!) and we are thinking of a bichon, llasa ahpso, shih tzu, basenji, or 'schnoodle' (schnauzer-poodle mix...they are so cute!!)
