Suppose your boss said to you that you could triple your current salary but you needed to be transferred to another part of the world...
For the sake of argument..let's say that it was either a former republic of the Soviet Union or the Middle East.......
Would you go????

Re: Hypothetical Situation
My clients do that for their employees everyday. Triple their salary or better yet, provide a full year's salaray for 3 months work in the middle east. And they take it.
I personally could not. It's just goes back to being too darned close to 9/11. They already tossed a plane at me. Im not about to go to the homeland of Evil, Terrosim and Hate and think I can work happily ever after. No amount of security or money can bring me back from the dead.
If I wanted to do this so badly I'd have go to with the military. I'd have to know I was doing my part to support America and the war efforts. I'd have to know my family (parents, Jim, children if I had any) would be taken care of. Then Yes, I'd go. For America I'd pay that price and take that risk.
Not for my company though. Not for any salary. Find another person who may believe they have less to lose or believe they can 'handle it' I'll shamelessly admit I can't handle that, for nothing but a paycheck.

Re: Hypothetical Situation
easy answer for me - absolutely not
FH and I both treasure our families too much to ever want to move that far away from them. All the extra $$$ wouldn't make up for us being miserable and homesick.
Despite the fact that NY is totally UNaffordable for us, I still struggle with the thoughts of moving away ..

Re: Hypothetical Situation
I would never do a permanent move to one of those areas, but I would consider some areas for 3 months or so...

Re: Hypothetical Situation
It depends on the area. Outside of the U.S., I would move to England, Ireland, or Australia. As long as I felt like I lived in a good place to raise a family it might be worth it!

Re: Hypothetical Situation
no- nothing against other parts of the world, but I'm too close to my family. Although FH wants to live in England, so if that was an option for a limited amount of time, I might do it.
my unlce was considered for a position in China, but he wouldn't even go on the trip to check it out, b/c he knew he wodl never take it. His jkids were in elemntray school at the time & even though yhey'd attend an American school there, he didn't want to uproot them like that, even though he has moved them around the east coast for his job.

Re: Hypothetical Situation
Nope - absolutely not - I wouldn't even move to NJ for more money. Money isn't what ultimately what makes me happy. (I am such a NY'er.)

Re: Hypothetical Situation
Depends where in the middle east. Transfer me to Israel and I'm there- FH is from there and my family is from there too. Anywhere else, not a chance.

Re: Hypothetical Situation
I would go to the former Soviet Union in a flash, but not the Middle East. Also, I wouldn't stay there for more than 2 years AND they'd have to pay for my housing too.

LOL and we are thinking of moving there in a few years!
As for your hypo. situation....I would do it if it was the right job. Not this job. I mean - I'm not super duper close to my sister. We're close but not 'I need to see her daily' close. Not close to my cousins - if I see them yearly it's alot. Communication is by e-mail mostly. Just too busy you know?
But not Middle East. You crazy? But Russia is closer (depending on what part) to Clive's family so it would make some sense if we did move there.
