I am losing my job

ok I was informed today my store is closing in a few weeks. I am somewhat upset and scared. Long story short, I have been there for 14 years. I started when I was 16 and just stayed with it. Well now it is closing up forever. I am somewhat scared because I don't know anything else. But I know I am also stuck. I do not want to go into retail again. (people can be sooooo CRUEL.)

I think after this I am going to take until January off. I have been working since I was 14 and need some time. I will be posting here probably for job help in a few months for job help and resume` assistance.

But in some sort of way I am happy. I have been getting so tired of it lately. I just will miss all the wonderulf friendships I have made. That is what hurts the most.

I'm so sorry

I know exactly what you're going through. I was laid off a year ago, from a job that I was at for 10 years. Not that I was too attached to the job, but I had made some amazing friends and was so sad that I would not be able to see my 'other family' every day.

If it makes you feel any better, a year later, I still talk to and see alll of the people that I wanted to stay close with. AND I got to take a few months off

Are you by chance at a Sweezey's? My grandfather worked at Sweezey's when it first opened in Patchogue..and I was so saddened today to see that they are closing down.

I'm so sorry to hear about this! I'm sure this will lead you to a new part of your life, and I'm sure whatever you wind up doing, you'll be doing it because you want to be, not just because you've been doing it for so long.

Yes!!! I do. it has been in business probably longer than they even imagined. It is such a historical place. And it was like the vortex, no matter how much you wanted to leave you couldn't. The people that worked there are incredible. I am worried for my health insurance and all that other stuff.

And I am trying to stay positive... Like not having to work the day after thanksgiving.

And it is not like I am afraid of work. I can count on less than 2 hands how many times I have called in sick over 14 years.

That is what really S@#*s I had like 30+ sick days because I never used them. I could kick myself.

So if you were like me, use the sick days girls or you'll lose them.

I saw it online before and was really upset. My mother used to drag us there every Sunday! It really is a vortex..you're absolutely correct.

Oh Jen, I am so sorry to hear! And it's actually so weird because all the years I worked at Family Melody in Patchogue, I never went into Sweezy's and I had a few minutes before I had to teach this evening in Patchogue and for the first time ever I thought, OH! I should go to Sweezy's! But the nI realized I was actually running late because I got the time wrong of my next lesson Just odd that of all days for me to think to go in there. But listen, EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING in this world happens for a reason. There is something else out there that is waiting to be found by you! GOOD LUCK!
