I just called to rent a Church hall in Brooklyn for July the second. I know I am cutting it close. They are booked. I am so upset. Does anybody else know of a cheap place to hold a reception. I am almost desperate. We just wanna get married already. It does not have to be fancy, just presentable. Please.

No an outside caterer is not necessary. I spoke to the guy at the KofC in Seaford. He wanted $46 plus 18% service charge and tax. I asked him if I can get rid of the cocktail hour and he like just cut me off and said that was the lowest he cn give me. I really do not think the cocktail hour is necessary. As a matter of fact, I will be happy with just a cocktail party if there is enough food to make my guests full. I really do not want a huge fancy party. I just want something fun and easy going. I do not know what the big deal is. Why can't I find a place that just serves dinner and some booze that will not cost me $60 a person? I swear, if I had a big house, I would just have it in my house!!
forget KofC in Seaford. They're being jerks, it sounds like. Call the one in Oceanside. WE're not having a cocktail hour. If you want to do the outside caterer thing then stick with traditional halls, masons, american legion, vfw and smaller KofC hall. Problem is, you'll have trouble fitting 200 people.

I actually found a Kof C in Brooklyn for $32 pp. I am sure there is no CH, but it is open bar. Good right. And I really wanted it at night but it is taken. I am gonna have to take the afternoon, but that's ok. We'll probably just go out clubbin' with thte OOTers.
oops, didn't see that you found a place. That's terrific! Good luck with the rest of your planning!

Thanks Cloddy. I am still gonna check the other KofC in the around the same area of Brooklyn and see which one I like better. Thanks so much for suggesting a Kof C cuz I would have never thought of them. All I need know is a DJ, videographer, and phootographer. I think I know who I want for photography, but I am still gonna shop arond cuz that is something you cannot mess with.

$46 plus service charge and tax- that is CHEAP!! That is far less than half of what alot of us are paying pp- IMO I would go for it, I don't know how much lower you can get!! Besides, the cocktail hour is where people do alot of mingling- totally worth it. We are spending alot of $$ on our cocktail hour just for that reason. JMO
I agree, it is very cheap! Is this including liquor? If so, that's a steal girl! I know you're stressed about money and wanting to do it now...but $46 + grat and tax is only $59.00 per person. For 200 people, that's $11,800 for food and drinks at a really nice place. You can get bargains (or free) photo and video on craiglist and find a cheap dress at David's or the like. You can probably have a 200 person wedding for well under $20,000 (well under! - maybe closer to $15,000). Think about what you want and don't want and as long as there are no regrets either way, go with what you want. Another alternative would be to have it at a hall but do buffet style...it might be less than that. Have you looked into Glenn Terrace in Brooklyn? My fi's brother had his reception there a few years ago and I know they are budget friendly. The restaurant suggestion is also a good one. My sister had her reception at a Spanish restaurant and had a yummy buffet, open bar and free DJ (since it was the restaurants DJ)...all together her wedding for 100 people was under $5000. It depends on what you want and what you look for. Don't panic! As long as you have the money, you CAN plan a wedding for July...my sister did hers in a month.
Good luck!
Glen Terrace was about$10,000 + for 150-160 people.
