I REALLY don't get it.
Yeah yeah.. being a survivor of 9/11 and all that jazz you'd think I'd be angry about rubbing our faces in 9/11. That's not my point really.

Regardless of the issue I don't understand why the media seems to imply that the public doesnt want Bush to use 9/11 in any of his campaining but bring special attention to Kerry when he does as if he's telling us something new.

this CNN clip ticked me off
'Had I been reading to children and had my top aide whispered in my ear, 'America is under attack,' I would have told those kids very politely and nicely that the president of the United States had something that he needed to attend to -- and I would have attended to it,'

GIMME A BREAK
Dont tell me what you WOULD have done if you're president, tell me what you THINK you can do. Don't tell me you change laws, because you can't, our senate does that NOT you.

Don't use what you WOULD have done on 9/11 to justify yourself as 'better' than the currnet president. Hindsight's 20/20 and makes you look stupid to try to change it. I won't even drag out his flip flop on the war issue .. that's not important to me as much as saying that he THINKS he would have done better on 9/11. That ANNOYS me! The World was changed forever, crap that NO ONE could predict happens and now this guy who wants to be my president says 'well I would have...' GRRRRRRR backseat driver from hell!

If I had known a plane was gonna fly through my building maybe I would have .... (deleted I got too personal)

point is... this is BS and it ticks me off!

Just had to get that off my chest. I know I am in minority for not liking Kerry. I'd have preferred to other democrats (the general or edwards) going up against Bush. Kerry makes me think of Ken from Ken & Barbie, plastic smiles and easily positioned to make you think he's something you want. He's show me NOTHING that makes me think he's qualified to be president. And no I really don't give a flying Feck about this 3 purple hearts!

VENT!!!!

Thank you for saying this. I agree with you 150%. I don't understand how Kerry can say what he would have done in the situation. It's very easy for anyone to say after knowing all of the facts what they would have done and what they could have done better. This has been my point in general lately about the election and people's views on Bush. 9/11 was something that no one could predict. All we can do now is learn from it and try to make this country safer.

So I'm not blasting you for this, I agree with you.

Not to detract from the atrocities of 9/11 and the current state of terror in the world but there are a million other reasons why Bush is not a good guy.
Where does he get the nerve to try and make an amendment to the Constitution banning a certain group from getting married and living their lives????? Last time I checked this country stood for liberty and justice for ALL.
Trying to discriminate against a group of people is horribly wrong. The constitution has historically been changed to CORRECT the injustices to people not make NEW ones. How can you back a president who doesn't believe everyone has rights??????

I think both sides have traits that I wouldnt call befitting of a president. For me I want a president that has..Ball$...We are in a war..and Gay rights..whatever else these politicians want to discuss.... If we dont choose a president who can handle the ugly face of war ...there wont be anyone left who would need their rights protected...so GAY rights takes a back seat to me, as do some of the issues that are making headlines. Just tell me how we can get back home our troops and make Amercians feel safe again.

Because I read the article that quoted Bush as saying he wanted to have the American people vote as a whole on whether or not same sex marriages should be legal, not states individually.

And I agree, with that.

I will NEVER say I agree with Bush on everything. Namely I am pro-choice.

Off topic for me.. but still a valid arguement.

But Im saying as a man who's TRYING to become president, I resent Kerry dragging out 9/11 when no one wants to hear a word about the good job Bush did. They want it both ways. That's stupid, in my opinion.

ETA: he's selling himself to us.. but at least do a good job of it. gimme something I can think about not telling me how the PAST could be redone.

OK, so the rights of American people should take a backseat. If that was the case then why in the world was the biggest woman's movement during the Vietnam War? Maybe that should have taken a back seat too. Maybe we can start discriminating against everyone just because our troops are in Iraq.

That would make it a really nice country to come home to.

My belief about Bush and the amendment is that he did it because he knew it would never get passed but yet it makes him look good to his party. Also although I am against banning gay marriages most people outside of NY and CA are for it. As a matter of fact there was quite the debate on this site about it a couple of months ago and I was actually shocked with how many people were against gay marriages. Sadly I think the majority of this country is against gay marriages so he probably actually looked good to a lot of people by suggesting it.

Also, Kerry is not for gay marriages so he's to say that he wont try to ban them also?

I wonder what the outcome would have been if we voted on black americans and women the same way?

you mean to tell me knowing what you know now, there is nothing you would ever do differently in your life? you never change your mind or reflect on and analyze your actions? you never tell someone else what you would have done in any given situation?

I think the point that is trying to be made is that Kerry's entire campaign so far has been saying Bush did this wrong and I'm going to do it differently. He hasn't disclosed yet what his plans as a president would be other then to say he's going to do the opposite of Bush.

But it is actually early in his campaign to disclose his policies. Usually that doesn't come out until around the time that debates take place.

Nice party.

That is just one issue among many. His stand against pro choice and restrictions on what we as Americans can hear and see on our radios and TV's is pretty archaic.

Hey I never said I agreed with the party. But he does have to do what the majority wants.

And again, I haven't heard Kerry come out and say I'm for gay marriages. I've actually heard him say he was against it also. So what makes him better?

Well, the rights of the american people should not take a back seat but in honesty do you see Gay rights getting as much publicity as the war..Nope. Do you see Abortion getting as much emphasis..Nope...Is that right..I didnt say it wasnt..Just what I see the media as well as the majority concentrating on.

Its not that these issues are not important but I guess in the big scope of things..THEY are not going to be the basis of how I vote and alot of the people who I network with either...but then again..most of us are military affiliated...and we know how the military feel about homosexuality..but thats off topic.

Honestly, this election is unlike the usual that we have. We are at war and the majority of the people are going to vote based on who they have the most confidence in to bring us out of this war. You not only have the troops posted overseas who will get thier chance to vote. But their parents and family members so its not an even voting field (not that it ever was) But it will be intresting to see who people have confidence in.

I guess the fact that he is not trying to amend our constitution. He may not be for it but he isn't making it illegal

But he's not making it legal either and he's not in any kind of power to make it illegal at this point. So who's to say that if Kerry wins the election he wouldn't make it illegal?

Its amazing how many presidents actual live up to the promises they make BEFORE they get into office as compared to what actually happens. Bush included.

Hey gay rights was only one issue...not the sole issue. I agree the war is first and foremost in peoples minds...alot of people are asking why are we in Iraq?

Re: I may get blasted for this but, why is it not ok for Bush to bring up 9/11 but kerry can? (policital vent)

For me that question comes with a twist. I dont like that the troops in essence got decieved as to what they were fighting for but they are over there and now we need a president who can handle possibly the biggest issue of his presidential career. I dont think either candidate is 100% capable to tell you the truth.
Kerry I suspect would be a chess piece that can be moved by others. Bush we have seen his flaws. Now we just have to make a choice between the two evils. And if one can bring up 9/11 the other should since its going to be a hot topic come debate time..got my popcorn ready.

9/11 will be discussed. Its inevitable.
