I met with Tom at Audrey's Bakery today! He was fantastic but...
my fiance thinks we are crazy to spend so much money on a cake when one is already included at our hall. The cakes at our hall are unacceptable in my opinion. I don't know what to do. The cake we designed today sounds so incredible.

I would get a small version of a wedding cake if you already have one included. I have a dumb question...I'm curious as to how much wedding cakes run these days???

IMO yes they are. I'm also getting married at the North Ritz and I am not at all impressed with their cakes. Sorry If I offend anyone but this is JMHO.

Tom did our wedding cake, but it was included. However we did order some upgrades and the day of the wedding we didnt get exactly what we wanted. It was the only thing that wasnt perfect on our wedding day. The cake was still great though.

I fell in love with a particular cake. Our hall is crediting us $100 and we are having it made by Audrey's bakery. It's more expensive than what our hall includes, but b/c we love it so much, we decided it was worth the extra cost. Thomas has been wonderful to work with!

The cakes provided at NRC has lead to much discussion on the NRC thread, but what exactly is the problem with the cake??? No one seems to give exact details, did you taste, is the designs not right, please explain!!

Jess, The problem with the cakes at NRC are the design. They are the oddest, most unprofessional looking wedding cakes I've ever seen. The proportions are completely off. For example, imagine a four tier wedding cake where each tier is almost the exact same size and even though it is four tiers it is still super short (like the size of a a two tier cake somewhere else).

I've heard that its a good idea to get a small but beautiful (SP) cake for you to cut, then in the back they have a sheet cake that actually gets cut up and served...

Really, but what if you bring them a picture of the style of cake, can't they replicate it - if it's not over the top. and what about the taste?

Perhaps they can, but I've seen enough pics of NRC cakes to prefer to go elsewhere for mine.

Ive referred to some of the pics of the NRC cakes as the 'Easy Bake oven cakes'
What Im going to do is b.c they look so wierd, Im going to ask them to tier it instead of stack, so they different cakes will be separated. then flatten or smooth out the icing.

I HATE the NRC cakes. It am VERY disappointed. I just wish I could afford a nice one - can your guys tell me how much you are spending. I want a very simple design, but I still don't trust NRC...maybe we should send them a petition to fire their pastry chef!!
Now that I think about it, that's prolly why they don't let you taste the dessert!

I have heard that the cakes taste good, just that they dont look as nice. Honestly, I couldn't care less how the cake looks. I'd rather spend the money on something else. JMHO.

I have to agree with the 'it's only a cake' crowd. I mean, you just eat the thing anyway. But on the other hand you don't want a cake that looks like a 2nd grade class baked it.
