Definitely call the NYC dept of ed. Go to their website, http://www.nycboe.net/default.aspx
You can look up individual schools in specific areas and regions....why not just fax your resume to schools in specific areas and see what comes up? (I hope you have a fax on your computer or something because I know it can get costly!).

I never looked for city jobs, but they might have postings on this section of their site:

Scream away darling...I TOTALLY understand what you are going through...I have been looking for another job for the last 4 months - and it seems everyone and their mother is finding new jobs BUT me...I'm so stressed out at this job...no bonus this year for tax season - no explaination as why not either, no review or raise - which was due in July...I've had it ...and I'm starting to get down on my self - with all this stress from the wedding and closing on a place...I don't know what is going to happen if I don't get out of here...
OUR time will come...keep your fingers crossed

Kathleen, so sorry to hear you're stressed. (and i spologize for jumping in... im an '07er.) The city is innudated with resumes.... they probably don't look at half of them. i got FIVE job offers at the last minute in 2004 because i physically WENT INTO the schools with my resume. they want to see a face.... i woudl suggest trying this... today, why not, scope out some schools in queens and brooklyn (or wherever is commutable for you) and jot down a few... then get in the car and see what happens. it worked for me...

I'm sorry! that stinks...unfortunately its really hard to get a teaching job in el ed on the island...the city always needs them...Where i live in NC they need El ed Teachers badly, pretty much all the postings on the school website is for el ed teachers. Just wanted to give you a b/c i'm looking for a job, since i just moved here and had to leave my job, so i totally understand how you are feeling
