I truly do not feel that her husband had the right to make that decision to end her life. I think it is utterly horrible that she is being starved to death.
What does he gain from her death? NOTHING...I just can't imagine watching your child die right in front of you...I know that she doesn't have any brain function, but still, she is being starved to death and I just think that is WRONG!

Its a horrible case and the worst part is that the whole U.S. goes day by day waiting to see exactly how long she will live. I guess it just shows how messed up this world can really be.

I think it's especially terrible that this is how her life is going to end...instead of ending in peace like it could have...

it is horrible!!!
DH's grandfather was brain dead for 12 years, the final 3 years on a feeding tube..he was a member of the family..and he lived in the back room of the house in a hospital bed..DH's grandmother cared for him until he passed in Dec. When he died the whole family mourned..he died of a respiratory infection
Terri's husband killed her and is making her family watch.

I'm with you.
I don't think her husband is totally the bad guy though. I feel for him and EVERYONE involved in the case.

I agree with you
Once he started a relationship with her nurse in 1991, his rights as her 'husband' should have been terminated.
We are all so worried about 'did she WANT to be hooked up to this?'
Well, what about, 'Would she WANT Michael to continue making her life and death decisions after he hooked up with her nurse shortly after her injury, had another relationship after that, and then finally fathered 2 children with another woman?'
I am SURE that she would NOT want him making her decisions...
He broke his marriage vows a long time ago...

I think it would have been nice if the parent made the decision to let her go! But with all this nonsense that is being fed to them by doctors and religious people...they think a recovery is possible...it is sad

I would say when you start fathering children with another women you give away any marriage rights like sentencing someone to death

well the question 'would she want to live that way' is the important question here

I agree with you. I don't think he's the right person to be making this decision. He's moved on with his life and he may feel she is holding him back.

I am totally with you on this one. This case breaks my heart and, at the same time, scares me to death. It would be a totally different story if Terry had made her wishes known in writing. But, the fact that she is being starved to death based only on her husband's word (and the word of his family) is FRIGHTENING. Who knows if that is the truth??? It is basically his word against her parents. PLUS, he is now living with another woman and her family. All I know is it scares me to death to think that is all it takes to starve her to death.
Compounding the fact is his totally shady behavior. No one really knows what got her into this state in the first place. There have been abuse allegations. Why the heck does he want her to be creamated??? Additionally, isn't there a monetary incentive here? I believe $700,000 of the one mil was put into trust for 'her care.' yet, she is in a hospice??? if she dies, who gets that money?

i absolutely agree with you. i think its horrible as well. the husband should stay out of it- i just dont understand how they can give this poor woman a death sentence.
i heard about a few women that were in her state and snapped out of it. they say you can feel everything. i cant even talk about the case - it makes me sick

1. in the end it isn't about the husband it was about a decision A decision that needed to be made and would have been nice if the parents did that! But they couldn't
SHE IS BRAIN DEAD...she isn't comming out of it and i don't believe the weirdo money hungrey doctors who say that people HAVE come out of being BRAIN DEAD.
2. HELLLLLLLLLLO have anyone ever thought that MAYBE the doctors are the money hungrey jerkoffs who want to use her body for their research?
That they are playing on the family's desperation??????TO GET MONEY!!!

I totally agree with you on this one. I also just read on the other Schiavo post that someone mentioned that he wants her body cremated and buried with his family. dont know how much truth there is to it, but if it is true Why is it necessary for him to put her family through so much pain??

I understand your point, but, I think the fact is - that it is a very subjective decision. Not every individual would want to be cut off from the feeding tube in that state. The fact is, that only the individual should be able to terminate their own life in that situation. How do you know what is going on right now in her mind? Do you know that she would want to die? Absent knowing for sure, anything else is murder.

Sure, that's possible.
For me, *my* biggest concern is about a man who broke his marriage vows (and, many times over, at that) is making this woman's life and death decisions. They were married in a Catholic church. 'Till death do us part' was DEFINITELY in their vows. There is NO getting out of that vow, if you want to be married in the Catholic church.
If I were in this situation, and my husband had already moved on, I would want my parents to make the decisions, regardless of what they might choose. Right now, I think 'nope, just unplug me and let it all end', but if it were really going to destroy my family, and become something that they could never heal from, then I would want them to keep me 'plugged in', if that's what would bring happiness to their lives.
