I think I am the only person who beleives that the Terri Shievo case is just horrible (M)

Original post by WeddingsRock

I truly do not feel that her husband had the right to make that decision to end her life. I think it is utterly horrible that she is being starved to death.

What does he gain from her death? NOTHING...I just can't imagine watching your child die right in front of you...I know that she doesn't have any brain function, but still, she is being starved to death and I just think that is WRONG!

The fact is, that only the individual should be able to terminate their own life in that situation.

First of all, assisted suicide is not legal.

Second of all, she's supposedly (or was) a practicing Catholic. Catholics don't believe in suicide.

Do some more research.

I don't understand why people are complicating this situation as though she was on life support..she is not dead..she is living and breathing!!

She was on a feeding tube, which is a form of life support. She could not support life on her own without assistance from a tube. She is brain dead.
ETA: Without medical intervention she would have died 15 years ago.

BMD's peanut - what part of my description was not accurate?

the part where you infer that he wants her body cremated and the abuse?
Do you think he has recently abused her?

SHe was fully examined...there were no signs of abuse EXCEPT the abuse she did to herself!

HE WON a court case saying so

ABUSE...if the family really thought that WHY did they let him LIVE with them ??? FOR 3 YEARS

Well then, I guess you support my point. Terry wouldn't want her life to be terminated because she is a catholic. So, obviously, her husband is lying.

Also, I am an attorney. I know the law. You misinterpreted the context of what I wrote.

life support and a feeding tube are two completely different thing

a feeding tube DOES NOT keep you alive

Here is your statement...

No one really knows what got her into this state in the first place.

Additionally, isn't there a monetary incentive here? I believe $700,000 of the one mil was put into trust for 'her care.' yet, she is in a hospice??? if she dies, who gets that money?

1-They do know what caused her to suffer brain damage.

2-That money is supposedly all gone--which I don't doubt...How do you think she was able to receive such impeccable care for the past 15 years?

Isn't it possible that even though he has moved on that he still cares for her and wants to honor her wishes?

I agree with you

Once he started a relationship with her nurse in 1991, his rights as her 'husband' should have been terminated.

We are all so worried about 'did she WANT to be hooked up to this?'

Well, what about, 'Would she WANT Michael to continue making her life and death decisions after he hooked up with her nurse shortly after her injury, had another relationship after that, and then finally fathered 2 children with another woman?'

I am SURE that she would NOT want him making her decisions...

He broke his marriage vows a long time ago...

I agree with you. I don't think he's the right person to be making this decision. He's moved on with his life and he may feel she is holding him back.

absolutely!!!!!

Sue..in the end...WHO CARES WHO MAKES THE DECISION...SHE NEEDED TO GO!

IMO the parent aren't mentally capable of making hte right decision either!

SHE IS NOT A PET....she is NOT getting any better...never will and that is the cold hard reality that nobody seems to face
SO the fact the he is making the decision is irrelevant...the decision NEEDED ot be made!

Redhead or BMD's peanut - whoever you are - you are entitled to your opinion. I did not say he did abuse her, I said there were allegations. The truth is, neither you nor I know what really happened. My only point is that it is kind of scary that her life can be terminated based only on her husband's word.

just another thing to throw in:

Her current hospice is not charging any fees. I don't know about the previous places, but there is no money being paid to this place.
