I think this is rude...

I JUST got a wedding invitation..inside the invitation (by the way it was addressed to Mr and Mrs... yet we are not married yet) there was a small card...the card states

Dear Friends,
On this special day there is no better gift than your presence. At this time N and A will be living in rome, Italy and this is the reason they are choosing a wedding contribution instead of gifts.

Thanks

Is it me or is this completely unnecessary/??Please, let me know if i am overreacting.

If there is no better gift than your presence, why do they want a contribution?

I am still kind of shocked by it...

FH thinks I am being stupid for being like this... he says it is because ecuadorians (he is from ecuador) dont know to give $$$ because they give presents there...

I dont care, i still think it is rude!

Re: I think this is rude...

My sister's friend (an attorney) had a big fancy wedding at a country club in PR (also married an attorney). Her invites were engraved on ivory card stock, fancy wording, the whole nine. Anyway, lo and behold there was a little card (matching the invite) that said (in spanish):
Your presence is present enough, but if you must, a gift in cash is much preferred (as in 'efectivo' they used that word!).

I was and still am disgusted by that. My sister couldn't believe it either. And she's the daughter of doctors and lawyers (her friend) so apprently, it's normal over there.

So, basically, your presence is the present, BUT we choose that you give us cash...large bills, if possible. The audacity! Some people are just unbelievably rude. I would say, 'okay, you choose a contribution? Which charity should I make the check out to?'

i have never heard of such a thing...i would bring a gift just for spite. the bride and groom cannot tell you what gift is acceptable. so wrong!!

personally, i am offended by it! OF COURSE we would be giving $$$, but HOW dare they ASK for it! I think it is terrible!

(fh says if we give an ugly gift, we will get it back in return when we get married...UHH)

some ppl do give actual gifts other than cold hard cash. i have a friend who's given me an engraved picture frame from tiffany's. i don't really care that much for brand names especially if it's on a picture frame. but that's not the point... she got us that gift because she wanted to give us something we dont have. but if your friend felt the need to state what tehy did then fine... no biggie. it'll just avoid recieving a picture frame. i'd much rather get the cash.

it is fh's 2nd cousins... not even friends, so they probably should have put family and friends... but thats besides the point

I dont think wanting cash is the problem -I would rather have the cash than the gifts too..BUT what I see the issue is with right out asking for it... JMO..
