I was a victim...
Original post by afrodyt2000
of identity theft! Some fool got a hold of my credit card # for a card I never use and charged stuff at the Apple store (I don't have an ipod), myheritage.com, and coach.com! I don't know how much they charged but the credit card company thought the charges were suspicious. I have no idea how someone got my info. I don't use the card, I don't charge stuff on it online, I don't carry the card in my wallet so I have no idea how this happened!!!!!
Re: I was a victim...
OMG sorry to hear that make sure the companies eliminate all charges and get it reported to the police and to the credit bureau
Re: I was a victim...
I've had the same thing happen to me and it s*cks!!! Glad to hear your bank is on top of things.
Re: I was a victim...
This happened to me a few months ago. Same thing, I hardly use this card, I purposely leave it at home. I apparently charged a whole bunch of stuff at circuitcity.com. They called me b/c the charges looked weird. I put a fraud alert on my social security # so no one can open anything in my name for the next 6 months. You can also file charges against the person who did this to you.
Re: I was a victim...
I put in a 3 month fraud alert that should be forwarded to the other credit bureaus and I shouldn't get any credit card offers in the mail for 6 months just in case someone stole my mail or something. My bank completely closed that account and I cut up the card already. It's so strange but I'm hoping they don't do any other stupid stuff. I got a call from some chocolate company in NH, he wanted to alert me that some funny looking order came through with that same CC (I checked the last 4 digits just to make sure). I hope they catch the bastards because I would never do something like this to someone and I would never steal. It's so terrible.
Re: I was a victim...
O...wow no one needs this, it feels so invasive. Sorry to hear Adana
Re: I was a victim...
This same thing happened to us. We never carried our credit card either. But we realized that we paid a bill over the phone and she had all of our info name address...social security....we nolonger pay our bills over the phone. If you do...do NOT give them the 3 digit security code in the back of your card...that is for the internet only. If someone asks be suspicious.
Re: I was a victim...
Wow that's really weird. I never used this card to pay any bills online or over the phone but I'll definitely keep that info in mind.
Re: I was a victim...
If you havent already, I would file a police report and a report with the FTC. Then you can send that to the credit agencys and they will put a notice on your account for 7 years. Then anytime someone applies for credit you will be called to verify that you are the person applying. I had someone open 7 credit cards in my name this summer and spend over $2,000 between them all that I was able to catch and stop, and after I put the watch on I got called to ask if I had applied for another credit card that I hadnt applied for.

I've heard that some places try to hold you liable for the charges but thank God my bank isn't because I definitely couldn't afford that right now and I'd fight them forever over it.

Re: I was a victim...
if its identity theft, I dont think they can hold you responsible for the charges.
Re: I was a victim...
That's terrible! People are so sick!
