it was a viewing only party. it said on the invitation not to wrap the presents. it was the best bridal shower i've ever been to! it was so much fun! everybody just hungout and socialized the entire time and we didn't have to stop everything to sit and watch the bride open a gazillion presents for 2 hours. This was the most time I got to spend with a bride at a shower because she had more time to socialize with everybody. I told my mom i would love that for my shower. So, i thought i'd share the suggestion with all of you. something to consider. i do like the traditional showers of opening gifts, but this was very nice too. just curious as to what other people think of this idea.

Re: I went to a bridal shower yesterday and.....
Co-workers and I have had this conversation many times, because this trend seems to be becoming more popular lately. As a guest, I would be a little upset if after I spent all that time choosing a gift, and it wasn't acknowledged at the shower. JMO

that's where we are trying to find the happy medium (i wanna open my gifts at my shower) but this bride doesn't care.....so the moh and i are trying to find a happy medium where the gifts are appreciated and they felt their time was spent, but she doesn't have to sit through the whole opening them part

I agree also...I've sat through millions of showers, now it's my turn to tear through gifts. Completely immature, I know!
Not immature at all! I feel EXACTLY the same way!

Its all about a matter of taste.. If thats what you like, then GO FOR IT! My FSIL shower had a dj at her shower & she didn't open any gifts at all. I guess Im a traditionalist.. I cant wait to open all of my presents!

i love that idea especially if it is such a big shower. my friend had about 77 people at her shower and us the bms had to open them then give them to the bride so the process would go faster. i dont even know if she knew what she got. the wraping in cellophane would be nice. it still took 2 hours just for the presents only

I have heard similiar, but they tell the guests to wrap everything in celphane, that way everyone can kinda see what is inside, and then the bride still gets to open everything at home!
My friend is doing that too for her shower in August - honestly I never heard of that before but after searching on this site I found out a lot of girls do it. My mom likes the idea too but i dunno - I'm a big kid at heart so I think I wanna open my gifts

I would like everything wrapped in cellophane that way i can still see each gift and read the card and have a ribbon/bow hat or bo-k. I def think its very important to acknowledge everyones gift, but its so boring to sit there and watch someone open gifts for over an hour if its not me

Re: I went to a bridal shower yesterday and.....
This is exactly what I want as a bride! I already told my family and BMs. I'd rather spend the time talking to everyone, especially because more than half of my guests are from out of town. Plus, I barely express excitement for birthday/holiday gifts that I LOVE (I'm just not like that) ... I can't imagine what I'd do after an hour of opening blenders and dishes. It's my families biggest pet peeve against me

I think it is the biggest waste of money to buy wrapping paper and all that silly stuff. I would be thrilled to get my gifts without all that!

I look at my registry every day- I already know what I'm getting!!! But, as a guest- I usually try to give a really unique gift, and I like to see the bride's reaction, and the crowd's, to her opening it. I am so vain

I told my ma and BP this is what I want. I HATE watching people open gifts. Who cares that I opened a toaster, I don't. Why? BC I registered for it.

I have to agree. I didn't enjoy opening my gifts at all because it took FOREVER, but I know that most of the guests would've been extremely insulted if I hadn't...JMO

Re: I went to a bridal shower yesterday and.....
This is an interesting thread because we briefly considered not opening gifts at my shower but were concerned some of the older relatives would want to see me open their gifts and would be offended if I didn't.
What if you have two tables and one table is for gifts that the guest would like to see opened in front of everyone, and the other is for the gifts that can be unwrapped later. You give your guests a choice of which table to put the gift on.
That way you can have some gifts top open but it won't take too long. What do brides think of this? I haven't seen it done.

Re: I went to a bridal shower yesterday and.....
This post is so great! I was having this discussion with my family 5 minutes ago. We want to do this, but what is the proper way of telling people to wrap the gift in celophane in the invitation?
