If I have to hear this one more time... SO FRUSTRATED!

And it begins...

I had a feeling my future inlaws would... not make the planning difficult... but just kind of subtley do and say things to drive me nuts.

They have very generously offered to pay for photography, which is great. I have started searching for a photographer. FH tells his mom that we have started searching for a photographer. What is her reponse? Guess! It's my favorite response! I get it so often from people who have no idea what planning a wedding on Long Island entails, I should get a dollar for every time I have to hear it:

'Don't you think it's a little early for that? Isn't the wedding a little far away?'



NO, the wedding is NOT too far away! Photographers are already booking up for my date! This is LONG ISLAND, things work differently here than in other places, and people plan these events way in advance. As my mom was saying to me the other night, it's smart to plan your wedding this far in advance, it allows you to relax and take your time and research everything out, and you have a lower likelihood of getting closed out of vendors that you want - my parents booked my sister's Bat Mitzvah photographer a YEAR in advance, and they weren't able to get the guy they wanted, they had to go with a secondary photographer from the company and didn't end up being happy with his work.
Not to mention the fact that right now I'm in grad school and only working part time, and I get Fridays off as well as Saturdays and Sundays, so I have a LOT of free time, whereas I hope to be teaching full time this coming September (wish me luck with that), and if I'm teaching I will have NO free time.

And yet somehow this just does not communicate to some people... they just don't get it. It's so bloody frustrating. Even my fiance thinks I'm getting a little overexcited. At least MY mom thinks I'm doing the right thing!

Oh, and FH STILL doesn't understand why I think a videographer is an absolute must have. He keeps saying that they just get in the way and that we'll never watch the video.

Ug. I intend to have fun planning this wedding. I hope that everybody in my life will have fun planning it with me, but I can't force them to if they don't want to.

I get that question a lot too

but we can't sweat the small stuff, We really are doing the smart thing.

Its annoying but dont let it get to you!
Some people dont realize that things change and these days you have to book far in advance-especially for something like a wedding

I get that all the time.. especially right now because I'm doing flowers and most of these places won't even talk to you until like 3 months before.. yet I'm student teaching in sept right before we get married and I want it all done and out of the way .. same as you. my mom is the one that keeps saying dont worry about it you have plenty of time.. yet I really dont'.. what does she want me to wait till the week before!

I don't think people realize how quickly things book up. I mean what if it is early isn't it better to be prepared and have what you want then find yourself struggling at the last minute trying to find something half way decent.

I hear that all the time, that I have so much time to plan our wedding. But the time is going to fly by, why not take the time to book some vendors so you won't feel as stressed later on. I totally agree with you. This past weekend we met with the wedding cooridantor from East Wind and we're discussing photographers and DJs. My FH and I were already planning on booking these vendors ASAP and the coordinator told us we definitely should. Remind them that you have this time to plan your wedding so you're not stressed looking for vendors who have the date avaible and also, that you want a photographer that you WANT, not one that just has the date available. Try to stay strong and hold your ground.

And with the other stresses of school and work....I'm in the same boat. I work full-time and go to school 3 nights a week for my masters. It's insane and I think you are being smart trying to book now, while you have the time, and not when you get a class.

It is annoying!!! I get that response a lot too!!!! There is a lot of planning and expense that goes into a wedding...you need to spread it out and also book the vendors you really want earlier, so you make sure you get them. I totally feel and share in your annoyance.

that has been my all time most HATED question since July when we got engaged! It is not too early, the wedding is next year!!!! You can book things whenever you want!!!!

We planned everything 18 mos in advance and it was February. I wanted the vendors I wanted and I wanted to be done with it. Just ignore them. The time passed so quickly.

How are the bunnies?

I'm trying to ignore them - I just need their cooperation, since they've offered to pay for the photographer.

And the bunnies are doing well And staring at me as if to say 'Mom, where's my lunch????? I'm HUNGRY!'

def annoying but dont stress....just simply state your case!!! also remember people from the old skool dont realize how much things really have changed!!! good luck!

YOu know all wedding 'advice' can get super annoying. I have the opposite problem. im taking my sweet time to do everything and people are nagging me to plan. like i recently spent some time planning a trip for the spring and some family members started nagging me about how i should spend that time planning for the wedding, booking, etc.

either way its like LEAVE ME ALONE! ITS MY WEDDING!!

ok girls get used to that saying... b.c it is going to follow you... i am getting married in 9 months and people still say that to me.. and it bothers me soo much.. my florist did that to me he told me to come back in may to pick my flowers.. and it just annoyed me.. i want to get things done.. we are the brides.. we have right to plan things as far in advanced as me want tooo.. but it really annoyes me still........
