OK, I went for a test on Tuesday and the woman in front of me at the counter, could not speak a word, a WORD of english

She had to write her phone # down on paper when she finally understood whatthe woman was asking her for. Made my wait 20 min longer!

OK i'm done

Totally justified. Separation of church and state, end of story

I just feel if you are going to live here, speak the language.

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE IN PUBLIC. (sorry for the caps)
This is america!

my mother used to do this to me all the time (I don't mind at all) when she doesn't want people to hear what she is saying...

DH's family does it all the time...but honestly they speak perfect English...but are more comfortable in their birth language...they have gotten better around me since I don't understand...but it doesn't bother me at all...when we were in Spain...Dh and I spoke English in public...what else are me going to do? some guy on the street asked us for money and we said no...he cursed us out under his breath, but DH heard him and cursed back at him...the look on the guys face was priceless!!

would you never go to another country?

wouldn't Ron's girl friend be the 'after the accident'?

ers...oops, I missed that there's an actual debate going on.

I don't mind when other people speak other languages in front of me. My co-worker is from Ecuador and speaks English very well, but speaks Spanish on the phone and to some of her friends in the office.

I envy that she's bi-ligual and that she can have a private conversation in our office with me here.

Like Erica pointed out, if I go anywhere in the world where English is not the primary language spoken, I will still speak English. It's all I know.

I agree with the decision that the statue came down...but I don't blamed the guy for not wanting to do it himself...in a way I feel it violates his freedom of religion...

New topic for debate -

Don't you think it's too early for Christmas decorations, etc? I saw in Stacey's post that someone is already selling trees. The dept stores unveil their windows before Thanksgiving!

Don't get me wrong I love Christmas I just don't like it when it's rushed like this!!!
They seem to glaze over Thanksgiving.

Maybe working in the city makes it annoying too, since people come here to visit....

I agree, living is different from visiting.

I am talking about people who obviously know the language, but still talk their own. and at there job to other co-workers, rude.

If I wait to spain I would try to learn language. I spoke enough to get by in mexico., adn with my parents they held their own in italy.

Just to play devil's advocate for a moment...the United States has never declared an official language so technically people can speak whatever they want. It irritates me as well though, but I just wanted to point that out.

And I think the bigger problem is people with their cell phones! People have no consideration! Jenny2penny's example of the woman flapping on the phone (regardless of what language she was speaking ) is the perfect example. What I find rude about her is that she didn't put down the phone before handling her business. rude rude rude!

Donna...I just posted something similar to that in Stacey's post!! I cant beleive how many Chrsitmas Commercials I have seen already!! I even saw a Kohls commercial last night for a Holiday sale and it was talking about Christmas!!

Everything is feeling very rushed this year and I almost feel as if we should already have our decorations up by now!!

oh definetly agree! I think they do it to make you want to purchase sooner, but I hate it and try to not feel rushed

Similar, and I hope I offend no one.....DEBATE!!!!

I HATE WHEN PEOPLE SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE IN PUBLIC. (sorry for the caps)
This is america!

Yesturday: I was at the cafeteria and the register girl was YAPPING in another language on the phone, while ringing my up !!!)
She did not once stop the coversation or put the phone down. Kept talking and in the middle said $1.40, and continued talking. I said are you talking to me? she said Yeah.

a few years ago: I was sick as a dog, and not in the mood. At the laundrymat before I left for vacation and they had the spanish station on the TV. I kindly asked, can we change it to something we can all understand. She said, 'what you don't like spanish'. I said, well, I happend to be part spanish, so no, but last I looked this is america and the laguage of the land, so please change it.' (she did

Debate time- I do this all the time to annoy people like you, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
