what is the cost of an average honeymoon??? i feel like i have no perspective. we were just quoted 4000 for 11 days in vegas and CA and a car. i cant tell if this is normal or grossly over. argh!!!
*** OK SO...went to travel agent to hammer some things out. went from 4200 to 3600. i know, not a major change but its something. and we have the great trip we have been wanting. i still feel a little apprehensive, but i always feel like this after making a big decision. anyway, thank u guys so much for the help!

Re: im sorry if this is too forward but
We will be spending about $3500 for 16 days in Ireland- B&Bs, rental car, airfare and breakfast included. This does not include spending money or other meals. I think our HM is on the low side especially for the amount of days we will be there! I think your 11 day HM with a car sounds pretty reasonable!!

Re: im sorry if this is too forward but
There really is no average cost. It depends on:
1. WHERE you go (Florida will be cheaper than Italy for example)
2. Where you STAY (a 5* resort in Rome will be more than renting a condo in Rome, for example)
3. How LONG you stay
Etc....
We just booked our honeymoon a few days ago to French Polynesia and for 10 days we are spending considerably more than your quote for 10 days, but our flights alone are very pricey (it IS the other side of the world).
So it's all relative. Depending on what type of hotels you're staying at, that could be a great quote.

Re: im sorry if this is too forward but
we're going cheapy cheap for our HM because the wedding is costing a fortune and we just bought a house. We're planning to spend around $2000 - $2500 for a little over a week in Martha's Vineyard. That's lodging, food, spending $ and gas for my car.

Re: im sorry if this is too forward but
It depends what your priorities are...
if you really want a 5* resort, you will have to pay for it.... If your travel agent booked one, but it isn't a requirement for you, then yeah, you're paying too much!
we're going to good (on average 3*) hotels and B&B's, but not 5*s, and we're spending 4k for 10 days in the greek isles and athens in mid june... This $$$ includes airfare to greece, and airfare for island hopping.
(I'm a DIY'er, so I booked using tripadvisor.com, and the local greek airline websites)

Re: im sorry if this is too forward but
I agree with MrsQ-in2007 - it's difficult to establish an average. I've heard of people spending $1,000 and others over $20,000.
What I would do in your case is try to price something yourself to make sure you're getting a good deal. I think you could swing Vegas and CA for less than that. For example, you can Priceline a 5* hotel in Vegas (the only one people win is the Venetian, but you could potentially get the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay or Four Seasons) for around $120 or less if you're lucky (always book a backup with a good cancellation policy until you get a rate you're comfortable with), and flights can start around $225 if you shop around - although I wouldn't suggest Priceline for flights unless you're a very flexible person. I always reference www.biddingfortravel.com to see what hotels are pulling and tips on bidding.
Good luck!

Re: im sorry if this is too forward but
for vegas i wanted to stay in the venetian bc i have never stayed in such a nice place. then we were renting a car and driving to santa monica where we have a 4 star hotel. then 2 nights in monterey which is also 4 star and then 3 nights at a place in san fran. i definitely want the venetian but i dont care too much about the other ones. i guess thats where i can save some dough. then on the other hand im like, well its my honeymoon. i am feeling very indecisive today. but it probably makes the most sense to go lower since we also need spending money and whatnot

We're going to Jamaica on Monday until Saturday. All inclusive 2,800 complete for both of us. At least it gives you an idea of what other people are paying. XOXOXO Kitty

It really depends where you go and for how long... FH is surprising me, but I know it's around $6,000
