My MIL took the cards/envelopes out of our birdcage near the end of the night... she was afraid that someone was gonna take them.

So today, 2 days after the wedding, hubby asked his dad for them.... it turned out that they opened all of the cards/envelopes! Took all the cash/checks out... kept a log... and wrote on the cards themselves how much the person gave. Not on the envelope the card came in but on the inside, where ppl wrote messages for us!!!! I'm so upset! I wanted to keep the cards and read them in years to come... now each time I open them, there's this figure written in the middle on how much they gave and in what form they gave it in!!!!!

Holy shyte....that is the worst. Going through the cards and reading the messages is really fun. You should really say something. Maybe she thought she was helping??? We didn't open anything till we got back from the HM. We kept everything at our house.

And who the hell gave them the permission and authority to do that I would definitely have your FH mention how inappropriate this was.

OH MY...I'm speechless. That is the most awful thing ever...you absolutely need to say something to them if you haven't already!!!

Similar story from a girl I know....after her wedding while she was on her honeymoon...her mom called up a few of her friends who had not given her daughter a wedding gift yet. Several of my friends are big believers in the 'you have a year to give a wedding gift' thing...personally I think that rule is crap but when you have 10 weddings to go to a year and you're in 5 of them...funds get tight so I do understand them waiting til they have the $ to give a gift. Anyway so this girl's mom would call up the girls who didn't give a gift and play it off like she jsut wanted to make sure their envelope wasn't lost or something....SO RUDE and inappropriate of this woman to do. It was weird!
