Interview with a recruiter soon (followed by a tell me about your...)

Interview with a recruiter soon (followed by a tell me about your...)

I haven't been on an interview in nearly four years.

This is going to be funny.

Can I have a job where no one bothers me, I can slack off for half the day posting and writing my own work, wear jeans and be as much of my weird sarcastic self as possible?

Job interviews are weird.

So tell me about your weirdest ones.

Entry level office job for wacky Chinese people...yes, those people.
'Can you type?'

yes, 80wpm.

'Can you use Microsoft Office?'

yes.

'Do you know what our company does?'

NO.

'See you Monday.'

ok.

i also got interviewed in a bar once for the most authentic NY pizza parlor in NC...open until 3am:

'when are you available?'

anytime. [sip]

'can you work untiil 3am?'

yeah sure, why not? i'm usually here until then. [sip]

'ok, come meet howie on tuesday, i'll be out. you can start then. be there around 4. oh, and no drinking.'

ok.

You really should come work in my business. I wear jeans, slack off and am constantly sarcastic.

Can I write my stories there?

And can you move your offices to the east coast?

i do recruiting, so i've seen a lot of crappy people and crappy interviews...

but my favorite story for myself is my last interview...
I took a cab from Uptown to the location (downtown financial district) - it took literally forever and I went into the interview with the attitude of I don't want this job b/c it's too far... Basically sat back and didn't try to win the interviewer over...

Got a call the next week that they were offering me the job for $20K more than I was making... so now I'm working there and it was the best thing I could have done...

It pays to be a jerk sometimes...

I sat across a VERY high level event executive for a financial firm. She asked me if I was detailed orientated and then proceeded to ask me to show her my cell phone (which she looked to see if I abbrev people's names)

than she proceeded to ask me to empty the contents of my pocketbook and asked me why I had certain items in my bag

Needless to say I didn't get the job.

I'd love for this to happen to me. And have tampons drop out. I'd have no shame about it either.

I don't own a cell phone and I don't carry a pocketbook. Think she would have hired me???

It took her about 20 minutes to go through everything.

While I did win points for having so many restuarant/hotel business cards in the bag (I get a business card everywhere I go), they were just thrown in and she suggested a card holder.

She commented on
the tampons
the fact that I had 3 chapsticks and no lipstick
My lighter (thank god my smokes were in my coat)
asked me why i didn't carry a notepad with me

Then she asked me to name the top 10 raw spaces on the UES/UWS

To name 10 privately owned hotels in Atlanta

I was dead in the water.
She was a FREAK

Funny part was the interview was the Wednesday before my wedding. When I got there I was nervous. Nervous bc I couldnt completely answer the Atlanta hotel question. But then realized she is a freak and if she was like this at the interview, she would prolly destroy me in the first week.

I am the unorganized organizer. my own method to my madness

Embarassing . . .

I had an on-campus interview with a large retail department store. I was so nervous. When I'm nervous, my hands sweat.

Well, when I went to say 'thank you' and shake the gentleman's hand, I WIPED my sweaty hand on my skirt and stuck it out for the big shake.

Re: Interview with a recruiter soon (followed by a tell me about your...)

I interviewed a girl who wore a bright orange tank top and a short black skirt with knee high boots to the interview. I almost refused to interview her - and after 20 minutes it was evident that I should have NEVER interviewed her.

She chewed gum obsessively throughout the interview.
She flossed her teeth with a strand of her own hair... and the hair was not removed from her head before or after the event.
She admitted that she 'stretched the truth' regarding her educational background on the resume. And by 'stretched the truth' she meant that she never even ATTENDED college, much less got a Masters from Fordham..
She sent me a thank you letter that had at least 5 words that were spelled incorrectly.

She wasn't hired - but 2 months later she came back to the office to ask if we had filled the position yet.

You should come work for my company--we wear whatever we want, are sarcastic and pretty much do whatever we want.

Seriously--we're always hiring.
