So I've been on the hunt for invitations at various places and really am shocked at the prices!! One place quoted me $800, which I thought was HIGH! Then I went to another place 2nite, and was quoted $1600!!! I think my idea of how much I wanted to spend was way low...or are the places I've been to over-priced?
Is this normal? I would need 125..this was for 125 invitations, response cards and reception cards....I dont even know what a reception card is?? Can someone tell me what they are!!
Help! Can you tell me roughly your invite budget and maybe some good places to go!!
TIA~

Re: Invitation Price?
You might want to check out online stores - you can often get them to send samples of cards that you're interested in so you can check out the quality level of them. I havent' gotten to the invite stage yet, but I've been thinking about it a lot.
You might also want to consider DIY ones - there are great invite kits available at Michael's and AC Moore.
As for what a reception card is, I think it's that card in the invite that says 'Reception Immediately Following.....' with the info about when/where it is. (If I'm wrong, someone please correct me! ) However, you don't HAVE to have those. You don't HAVE to do anything if you don't want to. You can include all of the info on the invite and then just have an RSVP card if you need to cut costs.

Re: Invitation Price?
We got 125 of everything for $400 exactly (I paid cash) and the store was wonderful to work with.
I went to A Lion in the Sun in Park Slope. They were wonderful to work with.

That def seems high. I would check out places online... Are you looking for custom made or no?

Re: Invitation Price?
i think that price depends on whether you are looking at high end invitations or not. I've seen vera wang invitations and the price is like triple those of other companies (same quality) just because of the 'brand name' Check out companies online, but I suggest always getting a sample or going into a store to feel the paper before purchasing. Because I saw an invitation I loved and the paper was so flimsy it was like copy paper.

Re: Invitation Price?
That seems very high priced....check out exclusivelyweddings.com You can order free samples of ones you like..then when you pick what you want you can play around with the online proofs and you type it in and pick wording and you can see it directly on your computer screen.. My invites are amazing and so beautiful I couldn't be happier with them..
They always have sales also...I paid $450 for 150 including invites, inner envelopes, outer envelopes, response cards AND organza bows for the invites....much better then 800 or 1600 !!!
the place cards are for the tables at the RH which most RH's provide it for you anyway...
Def try exclusivelyweddings.com ..... rexcraft.com is also great and always has sales and coupons..

Re: Invitation Price?
thanks so much for all of your info girls!! i am defifnately going to keep searching! These invitations were just out of a book...not even custom made. I dont know why/how they could be so high.
Good point about the online ones. we ordered our save the dates from magnetstreet.com and we were very happy. But i was a little leary of seeing the proofs ONLY online. I feel like that was ok for the save the dates, but i would definately need to see them before ordering. ....but if they send u a sample that would be a relief....like you said i would definately need to feel the paper and see the quality before ordering...
Thanks so much!
Anyone else have any stores to go to on the island?

Re: Invitation Price?
$800 isn't really that high, thats what i'm paying for custom gatefold invites and that is including the addressing of them, this is for 130 invites

Re: Invitation Price?
It depends on what you are looking for. I got mine from theamericanwedding.com. They weren't fancy schmancy but they were very pretty and definitely not plain. I paid less than $200 for 100 invites and response cards. And I received them less than a week from the date I placed my order.

Re: Invitation Price?
Try long island wedding boutique in Commack NY. I paid $400 but I got 75 invites and my invitations are pocketfolds with ribbon around it. As I am hearing some of the ladies on here paying as much as i paid for 120+ invites maybe I have a high end invite. But check them out because they have a lot to choose from and some are a good price.

Re: Invitation Price?
I went to some invite places first to get an idea of what I wanted, and what they actually look and feel like. THen I took that designer's name and the name of the invite and searched online for a better price Lion in the Sun's prices in Huntington Village for the invites I fell in love with were a lot more than the price I got at invitationconsultants.com!!

Re: Invitation Price?
If you have the time, patience, and creativity, I would try to DIY your invites. I am doing mine and for the materials to make 75 invitations I paid about $200 at cards and pockets. I have pics of my invite sample in my album. My MOH had very similar invites made for her wedding last year and they paid more than 4 times what I am paying to make them myself! Now I just need to find the time to do them and I'll be set!!
