Fh and i got into the discussion of invitation wording. We are paying for this wedding ourselves so I said that our parents should not be mentioned on the invitations. He thinks that it would be nice if we worded it as together with our parents..... but I think it would be nice if our parents gave us money towards the wedding! I just feel like it's giving them credit when neither sets of parents are paying for anything. Am I being ridiculous?

that's true....i would prob put their names on it just meaning that you are their daughter. it would make my parents happy if i did that personally, but i get what you mean.

Hmmm... this can be a touchy situations. Are they just deciding not to contribute or is there a financial reason (i.e. retirement planning).
Personally, I would mention my parents. But I don't think it's unreasonable for you to want to word the invitation expressing its just you and FH hosting. You should definitely agree on this. If you decide to do just the couple hosting maybe you and FH could do a toast for your parents to honor them.

it also depends on their reasons for not giving you money...if it's just b/c they cannot really afford it, then i would say put them on it, as long as they are still giving you their blessing and trying to help out in whatever way they can (monetarily or not).

see that's the thing. They're both financially stable, his a little more well off than mine. I don't expect them to pay for everything but neither of them have offered a dime. It is not the case that they are not contributing because they can't, let's put it that way. Actually his mother who is by far the least financially stable of all of them was the only one that told us that if we need anything she'd like to help but we never would because she really doesn't have much money.

Re: invitation wording discussion!
Because of my family situation (divorces) and the fact that they aren't paying for it I am not putting any names on the invitation except myself and FH's.
Good luck with that one. It's tough.

thanks! I always thought the parents aren't mentioned if they're not paying, I was actually a litlte shocked by FH's counterargument. Sometimes he forgets that it's only 40% his wedding

Re: invitation wording discussion!
This is a difficult topic for me FILs ar paying for a lot of the wedding (pracicaly the whole thing) and they want their names on the invitation like:
Mr & Mrs _____________ invite you to the wedding of their son _______________ to _________ME
w/ no mention of my parents , but my parent sare helping w/ what they can (our familes have a very financial status), so I want both names on the invites,
I think I'm doing the invites as a DIY so I'll put my parents on as well if FILs aren't ok w/ it that's ok. My parents did raise me. Just b/c they don't have an extra $30k for the wedding is no reason that their names shouldn't be on the invites, IMHO!!!
I think yous hould do what worls best for you.

Exactly what I was going to suggest! You can also google it because a lot of companies have suggestions regarding how to word it in different situations.
