invitation wording HELP (long sorry)
It's invitation time and FH and I need help with wording! Here is the complication - my parents are married but my mother kept her maiden name and hypenathed me and my siblings. My parents do not want to go on the invite as Mr. & Mrs.FH's father is deceased and FH has no memories of him. FMIL has a boyfriend of about 10 years who she wants on the invitation but FH does not want him listed as part of 'son of.'
FH is close to his mother and I am close to my parents so we would like names on the invites esp since my parents are paying a portion of the hall and FMIL is paying a portion of the hall and she bought our honeymoon.
Any suggestions?
Someone suggested:
Mr. WH & Ms. LB
together with Ms. KM & Mr. JL
request the honour of your presence at the marriage of etc....
Not sure though.
Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated!

OR you could avoid naming individual parents altogether. since you are paying for the wedding with contributions from your parents and his mom/bf, you could say, blah blah and blah blah,
together with their parents,
request the pleasure of your company
as they unite in marriage,
or something like that...

Re: invitation wording HELP (long sorry)
Before I try to tackle this from the etiquette books persepctive (Wow, take a weekend off of LIW and the wrok just piles up ;), do you specifically want to list parents or is 'Together with our parents...' more along your train.

I knew I could count on DebMaher to come save me!!!!!!! We would like to include our parents' names (I know, more trouble!) because we are both close to our respective parents and both are contributing to the hall.Thank you for tackling this, you are the best

This is a challenge, Daniela. I am not really seeing how to handle the long term boyfriend so I am trying to be creative. How about something like this:
Jennifer Lynn Thomas-David
and
Jason Mark Cane
together with their parents
Mr. James David and Ms. Marjorie Thomas
and
Mr. And Mrs. Kenneth John Capp
invite you to share in the joy
when they exchange marriage vows
and begin their new life together
on Saturday, the fourth of August
Two thousand and one
at four o'clock in the afternoon
St. Paul's Church
10 West Oak Street
Springfield, Illinois
perhaps better:
Mr. James David and Ms. Marjorie Thomas
along with
Alan Collins (FMIL -- boyfriend here)
and
Mrs. Jane Doe FMIL
request the honour of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Jennifer Lynn Thomas-David
and
Mrs. Doe's son
Jason Mark Doe
Sunday, the fourth of November
Two thousand and one
At half after six o'clock
Holy Trinity Church
Wilmington, Delaware
Reception immediately following
The Oak Club
Daniela:
The hard part is not your parents but the BF-- traditionally, he would not be listed. And, if a sig other is mentioned, it is typically the brides mother's sig o -- hence the way #2 reads is a bit awkward but what I created with some mixing and matching.

Re: invitation wording HELP (long sorry)
Thank you so much Deb! I appreciate you tackling this. I think it is going to be tricky and we will probably go against etiquette but at least our parents and FMIL's Bfriend will be pleased. I appreciate your assistance

Oh, Deb....you got skills
I definitely would go with the second Daniela! Seems to fit like a glove.
But, your decision of course!

Re: invitation wording HELP (long sorry)
Thx Jess. I actually reread #2 in the light of day this AM and think it is not bad. It is awkward to say their daughter with the two other names preceding, althoug 'marriage of her son' is correct, again, it seems awkward...but now, I like it OK.

That sounds perfect!!!With so many 'different' situations now I think they need to add to the etiquete books on the invites.

My FH dad is deceased and he hates his stepdad so that is what we are doing to avoid hurting my parents who are paying for part of the wedding. They say they don't care but....
