I'm starting to think; people must not realize that they're doing it...
If i get another person who asks myself; FH or the both of us when the wedding is; cause we need to let them know or when they say let us know cause that's gonna be a great wedding. And WE know we haven't put them on our list?
Now i'm thinking it's probably totoally innocent on their part; and thinking oh shoot; have i ever done that? LOL!

Re: Inviting yourself to someones wedding?
Ahhh Totally know what you mean... When I told my boss that we decided to have the wedding in NY she was like 'Oh I'll do that trip.' and I wanted to be like, well I'm not inviting you, but in a nice way said 'it's a small wedding'.
I LOVE how people assume they're invited!

Re: Inviting yourself to someones wedding?
I've mentioned that it is a small wedding and if they don't get the hint I say 'well to be honest, we can't invite everyone that we want to.'
I even told one of my friends last week (who we've tried to hang out with but they can never come through) after he asked about the wedding.. I said 'well we never hang out with you guys and we can't invite everyone we know' basically saying why would the wedding be any different?
I think they appreciated the honesty because we're still cool... (I think)

that's a great way to put it!!! We simply cannot invite EVERY person we know/hang out with occasionally; see every couple of months! It's just too much!

This has been happening to me alot in the past 2 weeks since we have been engaged!! And I do feel bad because they are REALLY CONVINCED that they are making it on the invitee list. Some of them I have placed on the 'B List' or even 'C-List' (which is really no list at all...LOL) but I think I am going to steal Mrs. Cali's verbiage when people who I know are not on the list ask..
And honestly, what makes it even worse is that these same people are trying to be EXTRA 'helpful' and send me pictres and ideas to increase their involvement so I will extend an invite....HMPF, not happenin' captain

i feel your pain
I have doctors at work whipping out their smart phones to pencil in our wedding date

Its such an uncomfortable situation, I guess they will find out when the summer rolls around and they haven't received an invitation!

Re: Inviting yourself to someones wedding?
Yeah happened to me too, happens to everyone. Tell them the date, smile and go 'sure invitations were already sent. thank you for the congrats..'.
if they pester you about why they didn't get invites, you just flat out said the Guest List was already determined a long time ago and those who didn't receive one clearly aren't on it!

Re: Inviting yourself to someones wedding?
I've had people do this to us - assume they are being invited. I am actually avoiding a friend request on FB from someone who I was friends with a while back and who thinks is going to be invited to the wedding but she's totally not! You literally can't see a thing about me on FB unless I am friends with you so she'll have no idea what's going on LOL
But I don't think I've ever done that to someone else. I just ask how the plans are going and keep it very casual in conversation - and I usually never inquire about the guest list.

Re: Inviting yourself to someones wedding?
Yea its gets very awkward! I've had someone hasseling me on FB wanting to know every detail of the wedding. FH was good friends with them years ago but hasn't seen them since their wedding over 3 years ago.
But if you really wanna hear AWKWARD I have a story for you. So a friend of mine came up to me (after we had asked everyone to be in our bridal party) and said 'so i heard that you might be asking me to be in your bridal party.' As I stood there with 2 of my BM's i was like umm, umm. And she continued...'well yea ya know its been said that you might be asking me' Me: 'umm, umm' then she tells me her BF (who is in our wedding) kind of suggested it. I wanted to KILL my friend. I didn't know what to say and after the most awkward 5minutes of my life of her continuing to ask if she was without directly asking she finally said 'well I guess I'm not in the bridal party.' I felt really bad but I've never been close to her like that. Then I got pissed at my BM's for not bailing me out LOL They were just as shocked as I was that that really had just happened.

Re: Inviting yourself to someones wedding?
I haven't had this problem with my friends- but FMIL opened her mouth and told friends of hers that they were invited- but FH cut them from the list!
Her fault!
