Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
Thanks for all your opinions. I think what I am going to do is go back this weekend look at the dress again and see how I feel. I will let you girls know what the outcome is!!!! I might just feel to guilty to spend that kind of money on a dress.

I think if you have it, then by all means spend it. I wanted a dress that was over $6000. Lucky for me, I found another at a sample sale.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
I also had a 2000 budget for my gown and didn't want to spend more than that. However, when I went dress shopping, the 2nd dress I tried on I LOVED and I knew it was my dress and had to have it and I ended up paying $3700 for mine.
It really depends on you. For me my dress was the only one that made me feel like the bride I imagined myself to look like so I had to have it at whatever cost.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
after alterations my gown was roughly $1900 - now that my wedding is over and after I had LOTS of problems with my gown due to either a bridal shop screw up or a manufacturer screw up, I can say that I didn't 'LOVE' my gown. I just liked it a lot. So much work had to be done on it because it came in with totally wrong measurements. In the end it didn't look like the original dress and I'm not really happy with the way it turned out. I don't think it flattered me at all. With that being said, there were 2 gowns that I had fallen in love with, one especially, that I had tried on before my gown. They both flattered me so well and I just felt that WOW factor in them. One was $3600 and the other was $5000. At the time I just couldn't justify spending that much money so I kept looking and ended up with my gown.
In retrospect I wish I had bought one of the pricier ones because I would have felt my best in them.
IMO as long as it's not going to break the bank too much and if you totally have that WOW factor in your dress, you should go for it. I wish I had!

I feel like its entirely up to you and what you are comfortable with. I spent a lot more then I thought that I would but i'm very happy with my choice.

I agree its a personaly decision, to some people its a lot, t some others it isnt. it depends on what you can afford, and what you are comfortable with spending.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
it's a personal preference, however as some have said before with funding most of the wedding ourselves I can't really warrant spending something like that on a dress

I think it's a lot because there are many beautiful dresses out there for less than half of that, but it really comes down to how much money you have at your disposal and what your priorities are.
Maybe you care more about the gown of your dreams and excellent photography than having your wedding during peak season. That could easily save you more than enough.
It's high, but there is a range for everything.
HOWEVER: shop around for prices before buying your dress! There is great variation between dress shops for the same dress from the same designer. Ex: Phillis from Bridal Elegance (?) and Lillettes (?) i believe were known for better prices. Doesn't hurt to bargain them down -- they all want a sale!
I wouldn't reccommend buying a gown from Bridal Elegance unless they are listed as an authorized retailer for that designer.
dont they have to be autorized if they are ordering the dresses from the designer and selling them intheir store???
unless it is an off the rack place it thoguth that was the deal with all bridal shops......

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
If had the courage to spend that much, I would've...but my gown was under $2000 and my hands were shaking when I had to sign the receipt.....medically speaking, I probably would have a seizure if I spent that much. Like most other girls said, if you can, and you want to, go for it. If you have to open a charge card and pay for it with minimum payments for the next 10 years, def. think twice about it. You can find plenty of gorgeous gowns for less. Do what makes you happy.....and not broke

Not necessarily, they may not be ordering them directly from the designer, that could be just what they're telling you as the customer. I know nothing about the store she's talking about, but if you read designer's website, it says not to order from anyone unless they're listed as an authorized retailer. There are companies that make near perfect copies. Put the label in it and evreything. In the end it may not even be a big deal, if it looks enough like it and you get a great deal, more power to ya I say.
But for some they want an original and could be upset that they're not wearing what they think they are.

very true- there are many websites that sell wedding gowns and all or most of them are not authorized. Bridal elegance is also gownfind.com. it is definitely a risk, but you save ALOT of money. however, I and several other girls on this site, regret taking that risk.
Just be careful girls- even with a discount, bridal/bridesmaid gowns are pricey and you don't want to get a knockoff, or not get a dress at all.
good Luck to all!!

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
Again $4000 is a lot. If you are OK with spending that amount then there are always other places you could cut back on things you dont see as important, either for the wedding or otherwise.Good luck with your decision.
If you post a pic of the dress, maybe we could find osmething similar in a cheaper designer and you could compare to see if you can see $2000 (or however much) of a difference between the two

Like all the girls said above - it's a personal preference. If you absolutely love the dress and know that it is 'the one' and you have the money, then go for it.
