Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
How did someone bring you that dress? Where did you go? I feel that a shop should ask what you are looking to spend and stick to it. Of course a $4,000 dress looks amazing....but if you never put it on then you wouldn't know the difference. I knew that when i went i made sure that the dresses they showed me were in my budget. I did not want this to happen cause i know myself and I would probably pick the expensive one.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
It's up to you and what you feel comfortable spending. But I'd get the designer name and style number and call up bridal shops and see what they can do for you.
That's what I did for my dress. and once the original bridal suite found out i was shopping around for a cheaper dress they lowered their price by $200 and gave me 10% off my veil.
dont be afraid to ask for a discount!!!!
Good luck!!
for $4,000 I'm sure its beautifuL!!!

If I could have afforded it, I would have spent that much but it wasnt possible. Its whether you can afford it or not.

Well my problem is that i was looking to spend around 1500-2000 on a gown. My fiance and I aren't getting much help fiancially with the wedding so I would be buying it myself. I feel guilty spending that much on a gown for one night but then I also think of it this way, I am working really hard to pay for my wedding I deserve the gown in a way. The gown I liked was about 4000 but they said if I speak to the manager she might take something off. Not sure how much that would be.
Go on the website of the designer of the dress then see where else they sell it! Same thing happened to me and a place in Boston said they would take 15% off with is a lot of $$ when we are talking $4000, so I brought that price to Kleinfelds and they ended up matching it! Always worth a shot to price shop! Then you have to pay for alterations, so they are willing to bargain with you trust me! You can always sell the dress after the wedding too if you choose to do that. I think I am. Try to get at least half back so it didnt seem tooo much!

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
I think its a personal decision, and if that is the gown you love and you can afford it, then you have to choose.Personally my gown was more than that, but its what i could afford. My FH bought me the gown, and when i went shopping there was no budget.
If lets say my mom was buying my gown, then my budget would of been under $1000 cause my mom doesnt have alot of money.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
if you love the dress go for it....if you can afford it and feel comfortable spending that amount...my father is paying for my dress and i figure it will be about 5-6k....(that is about what my one sisters dress was) but my other sisters dress was under 1k so it depends on your taste....(the both looked amazing on their day)
regardless of the $$$$ it is your wedding dress and no matter the cost weither if it is $1.00 or $1mil you will look beautiful....the cost less or more does not make the dress better or prettier so i do not think the amount you spnd on a dress should matter....
if you love it go for it....

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
like all the ladies said this is a personal decision, whats right for one person is not right for another. The only thing that matters is that you're comfortable spending that much on a dress and also more importantly that its in your budget. If its in your budget and you have no problem with it and this is THE dress then go for it...But otherwise i would say no.The fact that you're also asking kinda shows a little that you might not be too comfortable spending that much so definitely think about it a little, don't do something that you'll regret later.
I also spent alot on a dress but for me i was willing to sacrifice a bit by not shopping for NWR things alot and had no problem doing this, others are different and would rather still spend alot of money on NWR things and not have to sacrifice at all. I am paying for the dress myself, my dad did put some towards the deposit which i didnt know he was going to do, he LOVED the dress so much and wanted to do it, otherwise it wouldn't have been a problem for me to do it 100% on my own but still paying for a majority of it.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
i agree with most. if you are paying and can afford it and LOVE it, then great. dont blow your budget because of it though. personally I wouldn't spend tons of money for a dress i'm only wearing once. but that's me.my mom bought all of our dresses and she paid 2k, 3.5k, and 5k for my sisters dresses. when i told her my dress was only $1k (before alterations) she didn't even believe me and thought that was just the deposit. my mom is awesome - she told me money was no object but my parents are not made of money so there was no way i was going to let her spend a ton on my dress.
if it's your money you should do whatever you are happy with - maybe spend it on the dress if you find one you really love and save it on the other misc unneccessary stuff.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
I agree with alot of the girls, my dress is an EOM and I spent about that much on it, and believe me I was back and forth in my head about the cost too. But, at the end of the day it was what I wanted and I work my azz off so I treated myself and I have no regrets just looking forward to wearing my dream dress.

I think it's a lot because there are many beautiful dresses out there for less than half of that, but it really comes down to how much money you have at your disposal and what your priorities are.
Maybe you care more about the gown of your dreams and excellent photography than having your wedding during peak season. That could easily save you more than enough.
It's high, but there is a range for everything.
HOWEVER: shop around for prices before buying your dress! There is great variation between dress shops for the same dress from the same designer. Ex: Phillis from Bridal Elegance (?) and Lillettes (?) i believe were known for better prices. Doesn't hurt to bargain them down -- they all want a sale!
I wouldn't reccommend buying a gown from Bridal Elegance unless they are listed as an authorized retailer for that designer.

Re: Is $4000 to much to spend on a wedding gown?
Personally I think $4K is a lot to spend for a dress, however if I had lots of $$$ I'd feel differently. So it depends on what you can comfortably afford.

I think if you have the money and it's a dress you are in love with, go for it. If not, then look around..there are millions of gorgeous dresses for under that price too.
