Is a short engagement possible?
Hi, everyone!I just got engaged the other day… I was shocked (because I always thought I’d have a clue when it was coming, but there were no hints!), but very happy.
We’ve been together for 4 years, and my fiancee (wow) said that he would prefer to get married sooner rather than later — we’ve been through a lot together and we're both kind of fed-up with waiting.
I was just wondering, though… is that possible on Long Island? He was saying maybe April 2016, but I mean… it’s already September 2015! To me, that’s just not enough time at all for a wedding. I doubt I’ll go with April, but even so… Is anyone having a short engagement or do any of you know anyone who had one? And if I do decide to do this, what should I start doing now? And how long does it take to get a dress?! Haha.
Sorry for all of the questions — I’m a little overwhelmed at the moment!

Hi! Short engagements are very possible. You would just need to get on it ASAP. I was engaged this past July - i'm getting married in August 2016. I got my dress two weeks ago & they said it would be in in January. First thing to do is get your venue & vendors then dress, right away. Things are possible but you will be stressed!!

Is a short engagement possible?
We had a super long engagement, a little over 2 years, but my best friend did it super wuxik. She got engaged August 2014, set a date for sept 2015 and then didn't book anything else, than thanksgiving 2014 she decided to move up her wedding to February 2015. So she planned her whole wedding in about 4 months. So it can be done

We had friends who planned a wedding in four months. They made it work. First thing will be to find a venue. You actually may get a great deal for booking so little time in advance because they want to fill those dates. Then major vendors.. photographer, videographer, DJ or band, florist, hair & makeup. All these things book up quick. I can't relate to you because we're having an almost 3 year engagement lol but we're all here to help and support on here! Are you on FB? If you are PM me and I'll add you to our secret FB group.. it's alot more active than this site.

Is a short engagement possible?
First thing is to lock in a venue and look at dresses. They say most dresses take 6-8 months with out rush fees so I would do that first. Then I would do photo, music, ceremony and start looking at invitations. Good luck !

Is a short engagement possible?
Hi I got engaged in mid november and am getting married this sunday. I had a little more time than what you are considering, but planning was put on hold for four months during it b/c he was in the Fire Acadamey. I got all of the major stuff done between thanksgiving and christmas. I'd start with the venue and then the dress. everything else will fall into place after that.

Re: Is a short engagement possible?
You can definitely do it! I got engaged last October 17, and we're getting married this October 24! (So that's 1 year and a week) Keep in mind you'll probably have to compromise on some things if you don't get moving. For example, we got the DJ company we wanted, but not the MC we were hoping for. But that's ok. We also had to change our date (I wanted it to be the 17th, but everything was booked already) and go for a day wedding (we wanted evening, neither of us have ever been to an afternoon reception- but we're happy about that now). Like others have said, start with your biggest things- ceremony/venue are your first thing to book. Get looking now and don't hesitate too long (while also not making a rush decision). Then go for dress, photo, DJ. Everything after that is usually not as important or more flexible. Good luck!

It's definitely doable - I know people who have done it in 7 months or 9 months so it is possible - you just need to start making moves! lol

Totally possible! We got engaged on 11/22/15 and the wedding is 10/25/15 - we had the entire thing planned by the middle of January, so about 2 months of planning - only tough part will be your dress.

Re: Is a short engagement possible?
Definitely! My cousin got engaged in October and got married the following February a few years ago. I think you'll be challenged to find dates during more popular months, but if you look for off-months, you'll find more availability and better prices! After booking your venue, get dress shopping! My cousin only had 4 months, so we went to RK Bridal in the city. Less than 2 hours later, we walked out with a dress!
To be fair, my cousin is not too girly and is pretty low maintenance, so that made things a bit easier.
It might seem daunting, but totally doable. Hope you're an organized person!
