absolutely not.

By the time FH and I get married we will have been engaged 2 years and 9 months, a year is a standard engagement length with all the planning and saving that needs to be done.

Congrats!

not at all, a majority of us had 2 year engagements about so dont worry. I had my vendors booked when i had longer than a year to go. Engagement was 22 months long. ESPECIALLY in NY a year is about average, most RH's book far in advance and i know many ppl who even 2 years before had trouble getting a date they wanted and many with a yea ahead so that shows you how in NY ALOT of ppl have long engagements. When I went to my RH end of 06, they didnt have many dates left for around the time i wanted, most were booked for april-june of 08. There was one date left which i took and only bc someone had a hold but wouldnt put down a deposit and couldnt give an answer so i got it.

And book vendors when you can bc many book far in advance. There are '10 girls who tried booking some vendors and they were booked already

i think 1 year is perfect - we did 1 year 5 month engagement b/c we had to wait for the following december and also so we'd have extra time to save $$ - some people do even longer but i wouldn't want to wait that long.....i think a year will go by quick for you!

You're on a website that has had a 2011 board since last year Almost all of us have had much longer engagements. One year is practically too short for most of us!

well for same reasons as you, others have to wait that long. I waited that long bc we got engaged in july of 06, i did NO planning until about october of 06, i wanted to JUST enjoy the engagement. When we finally booked around end of oct or beginning of november, May was only 6 months away and didnt want to do it that soon. We both were set on May, we considered april or june which would've been same thing anyways but realized we wanted May. So no choice but to wait until May of 08

That was the same for us...we were set on April so it was either plan a wedding in 7 mths or a year and 7 mths....we went for the year and 7 mths so we had more time to save money and not drive ourselves crazy with stress!!

Not at all. I've been engaged since Christmas Eve and we're getting married next April. You need at least a year to properly plan your wedding, look for the best prices for vendors and save money. I have a friend who's been engaged for more than 2 years; it's normal.

I think a year is perfect. When I first got engaged we were going to wait 2 yrs n save up money but thats because I just had a baby when we got engaged and I am not employed. So it depends on ur situation....luckily our parents are paying

Not at all. You need time to plan, book vendors, and save money. I have a 2 year and 7 month engagement and to be honest we really needed this time to get everything together. I think a year is fine.

Re: Is a year engagement too long??

Nope, not long at all!! I was engaged Sept 2007 and am getting married oct 2010 (we waited so long so we could save money)...My engagement will be 3 years, 1 month and 3 days (but who's counting?!) I booked our hall about 2 years in advance and everything else is already booked, I acutally almost wasnt able to book a vendor bc they were already starting to book my date two years in advance!! I think a one year engagement is fine...
