Is anybody else having trouble losing weight for the wedding?

I am starting to get nervous...my wedding is only 3 months and 4 days away and I got on the scale this morning and gained 2 pounds!!
I would like to lose 15 lbs before the wedding and no matter what I do, I cant lose it. Does anybody have anything that has worked well for them? How about a good fat burning workout? Help...Im desperate!!

Hi Jenn,
Have you tried Weight Watchers? I just joined weightwatchers online three weeks ago since I don't have time to go to meetings and I've lost 8 pounds already. My goal is only 25 pounds total. I tried many other things and if you truly follow the points system and put the effort into it, it works.
Good Luck!

Good Luck!! I know how hard it can be.

Weight Watchers is definitely a good program, the only problem I have is my job, Im a conductor on the railroad, so its hard for me to bring food with me to work, most of the time I am stuck getting food on the run. But I may have to try harder! Thanks for the suggestion!!

I joined Weight Watchers about a month ago and lost 8 pouds so far. I want to lose about 15 before my wedding and I have other a year to lose it. I think Weight Watchers is great and will work. Make sure that you go to the gym at least 4 times a week to work out also.

I'm on WW now and wish I did it before the wedding -- I too had a hard time losing weight before the wedding. You have to be realistic about how much you can lose. I've been on WW since beginning of Feb and lost 24 pounds. I think it's the healthiest program out there. I also can't bring food into work so I just keep it in a cooler in my car and go off site to eat my lunch most of the time.

Do you have a spot you can keep a small cooler/lunch bag and just eat it on your break?

And it's definitely a double effort -- you have to eat right and excercise.

I am also on WW and since feb I have lost almost 30 lbs..I also put my husband on it with me as well...I did not loose weight for my wedding..I did try and I did join WW but I wish I tried a little harder.
The only advice I can give you sice you eat on the run. Eat less starchy food and eat foods that are high in protein and SALADS!!! they will help. I know it is hard expecially when you can not bring foods with you but if you drink water and make wise food choices. and EXERCISE you will lose weight.
Fast food and Junk food just mkae you more tired ....Good luck...

What i do... LONG

For me the best way to lose pounds and inches without losing muscle has been through weight exercises and dieting. So far I have gone down almost 3 complete sizes in less than 3 months (my fiance who works out heavier than i do has gone done about 5 sizes!!!). Basically, during the week i am very strict on what i eat and make sure that i watch my cholesterol too (this is important). On the weekend we eat whatever our heart desires (even chocolate cake and stuff). I'm really big on the lean cuisine and smart ones meals that have less than 4 grams of fat for dinner along with egg whites. Breakfast is always flavored oatmeal, lunch is usually a green salad or a slim fast with fruit/yogurt, and i allow myself two snacks of something light and healthy (like an apple or powerbar). The big thing is to do the weights and stretches (stretching by the way is one of the best ways to get rid of cellulite). I work out about 3 - 4 times a week about 30 minutes tops at a time btu I know my body and I target the areas that are necessary. I'm gonna start going back to the gym soon to 'kick it up a notch.' If you need to work out your lower region (like me) the best exercises are leg lifts with ankle weights on, like lunges and squats (and stretches!!!). You will burn more fat with weights any day over cardio as muscle burns fat. Other 'tricks' that i do is that i do some brief exercises every morning for about 5 minutes just to get my metabolism up (just a couple of lungs and side leg lifts). Another trick is to 'flex' the muscle and hold it for 5 seconds... then release. Flexing is one of the best things you can do for muscles... i do my flexes all day long at work and also in the car. I used to be really into working out so that is good because the whole 'muscle memory theory' defintely is true, thank God! To be honest i have not done any cardio at all since i started. The trick to doing the weight exercises is to not pause in between reps and to breath properly so that you actually are getting an aerobic/cario workout at the same time. Do your exercises slow and easy as ten lifts through resistance training is better then 50 'quick jerks' up and down. Good luck! I know it is hard but hang in there and don't get worried! You just need to do something differnt... your body is used to the method you have been following and as we get older it is harder to lose weight. Also every time you diet it is harder. Again, good luck and hang in there!.. hope this helps... if you need more let me know!

Re: weight watchers

i've been on weight watchers since january and have lost 27 pounds. from a size 16 to a size 8. it is hard but you just have to see it through. i go to the gym 3-4 times a week and just ride 10 miles on the bike and lift some weights. i hate to exercise. the big thing is drink the water and eat the fruits and veggies. it is so hard to choose an apple over ice cream but once you've been doing it a while, you get used to it. eventually your whole way of eating and thinking about food changes and you'll be much healthier and happier for it. i keep telling myself that more important than the wedding is when i decide to have kids i want to be in good shape and as healthy as possible for them and to start them on healthy eating habits early on. you can do anything you set your mind to - weight watchers really helped me, especially the meetings. good luck!

phunkycat: How the heck did you lose only 27 pounds and go from a 16 to a size 8. I've lost 24 pounds and my clothes are baggy now and I probably could buy a size smaller. I'm just amazed that 27 pounds lost that many sizes. That's pretty cool. And I was a size 16 as well when I started and I may fit into a 12 depending on the clothes. Just wondering if it was a misprint and you've actually lost more than 27 pounds.

For me usually 8 - 10 pounds equal one size. It's hard to measure that though when you are working out with weights as muscle weighs more than fat. In other words if you are using weights and toning muscle you can actually go down a size but have your weight stay the same! Everybody is different. For me I went from a 16 to a 10 so far and have lost about 25 pounds but i have gained muscle too. I want to get down to a 6 - 8 again. It took me about 2 1/2 months to lose this so far and i still have about 4 months so i think i am doing good. hate dieting though! Thank goodness my FI is doing it with me or else i could never get through it!

It definitely helps to have a partner doing the weight loss with you -- sharing healthy meals and working out together is great motivation. Plus you both get to enjoy each other's weight loss

Re: Is anybody else having trouble losing weight for the wedding?

I too belong to WW - I joined about 15 months ago and lost 30 lbs, and have been keeping it off. The program works, but you have to work at following it. I agree with what someone else said, at first it is hard to choose an apple over ice cream, but after a while you get used to it. Also, I feel much healthier now than I did before.

As far as eating on the run goes, I am a student and also work a few different part time jobs, so I know how that makes it harder to eat healthily. Is there anyway you can bring food with you? Also, even if you are on the run, there are things you can choose that aren't so bad - Wendy's has lots of good choices, and salads are always a good option. Also, from my own experience, I know if I am really busy and put off eating then when I do finally eat I am starving and totally overdo it. So, I try to keep snacks with me- a granola bar, cereal bar, piece of fruit, yogurt. anything that fits in my bag and is low points. If you do join WW, the dining out book is a good investment, especially if you find yourself eating fast food a lot. Alternatively, you can look up nutrition info for most fast food chains on the web and figure out points that way.

You can do it - Good luck

Re: Is anybody else having trouble losing weight for the wedding?

Wow, what a great thread I think I may print it out for inspiration!

I have been trying to get in shape since I noticed a slowing of the metabolism and shrinking clothes about two years ago. About a month ago I finally started to use a 30 minute Total Body weight training tape, and I have seen more results than I did with all of the other exercies that I have tried. Thirty minutes is something I can do at night after having dinner with my FH and it doesn't take away all of my relaxing time after work. I still try to walk for an hour a few times a week, but working with the weights is actually quicker and more effective.

So my advice - go get some weights and a video to follow if you don't know much about weight training!

Becky

P.S. I am wearing a pair of pants today that I have not been able to wear in a year and I have been dying to tell someone
angie3 Posted:

Becky that is awesome!!

Isn't that an amazing feeling when you fit back into the clothes that you used to wear? The only downer for me with that is realizing how much i 'let myself go' and how i had promised myself (AGAIN..) not to let myself gain the weight back!! ]- ( I'm a lazy person by heart and i know it. ) After we are married and my fiance and i are living together i know being able to purchase ONLY the food that we want and having just that in the house and not having junk fast food because we don't have our own kitchen yet want to eat dinner together will really help. Keep up the good work! Be proud of yourself! It's quite an accomplishment!

Congrats to all on the weight loss journey

I'm so glad to see so many healthy responses to the weight loss question. I think quick fix solutions are so dangerous and counter-productive so it's really nice to see so many people doing it the sensible way - and seeing that yes, you do get results with a healthy program. I am a big WW fan. WW not only helped me lose weight but to eat right. I am 5 months pregnant now and I would be out of control if I didn't learn moderation and indulging without overindulging. It's been a real Godsend in addition to the weight I lost pre-pregnancy.

Best wishes to all! Don't worry, you are all going to look gorgeous on your wedding day - Love looks great on everyone!

It's not my wedding day I'm worried about cuz my tush will be covered by my dress!!! It's getting into a bikini in Maui after the wedding without looking like an aquatic mammal!! (LOL)

Becky: What tape are you using - i've been looking for something similar, and if you've had success - i'd be interested in checking it out.
thanks!

I bought a book called BUFF BRIDES, and it has easy workouts that you can do at home and it really tones parts of your body and makes you look thinner. It has a six month program and a crah course in it as well. I did it even before I got enagaged and people commented on the change it made.
