Okay my very first Xmas with my FH, his grandmother, the one that views me as a walking uterus, hands me a 6month old baby boy and is like 'here here!'
Of course I was more than happy to hold him and didn't want to give him back I love kids. But then she put her hands in my pants around my hips and squeezes them tight, I'm feeling very embaressed and violeted, and she takes them out and goes 'I approve!'

I think I would have said something to the effect of 'Well I don't approve of you touching me or trying to somehow determine if my hips are worthy!!'

I was so shocked I almost dropped the kid. My FH was at lost for words. His grandmother is up in yrs and a little confused I think. I kinda understand her fears, my FH is adopted, his mother couldn't have kids, his uncles wife had four daughters before they gave up. Joe is the only boy and the carrier of the name. So I can understand her mentality. (I've worked with the elderly for yrs too.) After she did that I was ready to run for the hills, but now that I know the woman, she is very sweet and means well.

This is what my married friend told me when I got engaged.

Before your engaged everyone asks 'So when are you getting married?'

After your engaged 'Your getting married? Your so young!'

After your married (or in her case, day of the wedding) 'when are you having babies?'

After your pregnant 'Your already having a baby? Your so young and you just got married!!'

You can't win with people.....

Yes, and being married as long as we are and not having kids, it doesn't get any easier to deal with.

I'm almost compelled to say that I'm barren and Dh has a testicle that didn't descend!

I wish I could say that, but unfortunately my family knows for a fact that I'm perfectly fertile. As for FH, well who the hell knows???

then my boss at work says i will be a baby maschine. um yeah i dont think so. i get blood taken and i faint. then he said i will have one within a year. no i was thinking 3-4 years, but really thanks for your input .

When I got engaged my boss said 'when should I send out the memo on not allowing maternity leave?' (this was dumb b/c we are the only two in the office so 'memo' was a jerk comment)

I was like 'right after I send out the the discrimination policy'
Arse.

Oh yeah, supposedly it goes like this:

When you're single 'when are you going to find a good man and settle down?'

When you're dating 'When are you going to get engaged / married?'

When you're engaged 'When are you getting married? Why did you wait so long?' or 'Why don't you wait?'

When you get married 'When are you having kids?' or 'When are you getting a house?'

When you have the first baby 'When are you going to have another baby?'

From how my family explains it to me, it never ends!!

And the other notion that you can't have kids if you are living in an apartment. I hate that. I was raised my entire life in an apartment building and I turned out fine. There's no rule that says a kid has to be raised in a house to be well adjusted!!!

I'm surprised in his famly that there aren't rumors that I'm unfertal too. When my FH and I wouldn't see his family for months, they assumed I was pregnant, and we would give the baby up for adoption and then come back and pretend nothing happened. (like we would do that!) I rememeber my FMIL staring at my stomach when we came back, I thought lasers were going to come out her her eyes.

I think my family knows where i stand on the whole baby thing!!!

and if they ask me i will not answer them ill just give them 'the Look'!!!!!

I refuse to have kids while we still live in an appartment. I want to own a house, or condo before I have a baby. That is my rule. Not that I think its better to have a house, I think we should own our own home, when we have the baby, so we have something to fall on.

How can anyone ask you that while you're at your own wedding? If anyone asks me that, I'm going to tell them that we just made our first attempt in the bridal suite.

My mom just mentioned it the other day and threw me for a loop. I do think it is rather obnoxious for people to assume you will have kids at all. Some people just don't want them and those people SHOULDN'T have them. Some people CAN'T have them and the constant pushing from outsiders is hurtful. Truth is, it is nobody's damn business when you can and will or SHOULD start a family. Sometimes a husband is enough family for some women.

Mind you, FH and I DO wish to have children. But I have many friends and acquaintances and family members who have seen tragedy and infertility and the butt-in-skies who think they are being cute are NOT cute.

With all the crap that spews from everyones mouths when they speak to me, I don't doubt that I'll be forced to say that on my day.

They have given up asking this question because I don't give a straight answer. You want to ask me a stupid question, you'll get a stupid answer. I am sorry, I love my family and FH's family but asking when we are having kids before we are even married is annoying. I usually tell them we will have children when FH grows up (or is no longer a child). FH knows I am kidding and am just weaseling my way out of answering the question. Our families then worry we will never have kids because they are convinced FH is Peter Pan

I and FH on the other hand know he is and can be a responsible adult but for the meantime this is helping keep the baby questions at a minimum.
