Is DH snipped or unsnipped????????

Original post by mrtandmrst

We are having a boy and DH and I are thinking of having him circumsized because DH is?

We are not jewish and the only reason we want to do it is because DH is?

I was just curious how many of your DH's are or are not?

Also would you circumsise your son?

I've had experience with both kinds and there's not that much of a difference, other than the obvious additional skin. The first time I encountered what my girlfriends refer to as an 'ant eater', I was like what am I supposed to do with that lol But he was mad cool about my confusion and laughed about it.

Another difference is that men who are uncircumcized have a LOT more sensitivity!

i am reading the article now, and they talk about how the pain they go through when its done right after birth can effect them later on, this is what a psychologist said. Honestly, I think this is VERY rare, sorry but I dont think most men or I will say ALL men who have been circumcised can even remember anything they went through right after they were born and doubt it will effect their sex lives as adults bc of the trauma. That doesn't stay with you. And in the article they also say how they are discrediting alot of what was said in the past about how uncircumsied man is more likely to get STD's, UTI's and penile cancer. BUt at the same time they are also dont give any facts, they say that this issue is still debated, and they say that there is no real evidence that proves circumcision can help prevent these things but they also dont have facts that really back up that it doesnt either. So theres no clear answer. Also the doctor who spoke about trauma and how it can effect you later on in life said himself 'Dr. Baker has not personally seen many complications' and then gives an example of one time a doctor did a bad job with the circumcision, but then again that is the case with any medical procedure anybody undergoes. I mean any surgery there is a risk, even having your appendix removed which is supposed to be a very easy non complicated operation, but guess what there have been people who died from it, now doesnt mean nobody should do it bc of a past problem. People die from anesthesia, doesnt mean now bc it has happened that they should come out and say that nobody should go under. Doctors do make mistakes it happens ALL the time, so to give an example of a doctor messing it up doesnt mean now that all circumcisions will have complications, they even admit there have been very few of them. This one article is based on those who are against it, there are also articles that are for it and will have all their medical information and facts

and nobody is saying that anybody that is uncircumcised is not clean or anything like that, but they do have to wash it a bit more than others and pay attention to that. Many men i am sure do this but then there will be those who dont take care of it as they should.

ITA with you denise

we're not saying they are 'dirty' (even though some men do not clean themselves as they should) we are saying that those ladies who have experienced the unsnipped penis feel that it is unattractive and a little

i think its a decision that is made (snipped vs unsnipped) has to do with your religion, upbringing, culture and what DH has... we are mearly just voicing our opintion regarding the topic.

i think they are but hey - if you are happy with it, then hooray for you and DH!

Thanks ladies for all the input...
I am sorry that I have offended anyone the question was more related to the fact that my husband was not born in the US and he had it done in Romania....

His older brother had an infection when he was a 11 months old and had to be circumsised then so my mother in law remembered how difficult it was and did not want to go through with with my DH....

Now with our son many have told us including my ob/gyn that he rarely does it now......

So we were confused... but probably we will because I dont want my son to feel different from his dad.........

I honestly think that he will be more traumatized by seeing his is different from his dad's then the pain he will not even remember when they do it is an infant...

I received some FM that were a little less than civilized....

Once again for anyone that felt offended I apologize...

This is just one article I posted for the OP.... a decision like this needs to be heavily researched. I'm pretty sure most of the people posting on this thread have done very little to NO valid research on the topic. I think I've read over 100 medical journal articles on circumcision and the pros and cons.........

I could start listing TONS of journal articles for the OP to read but I don't feel this is the appropriate audience/forum to do so. I just gave her one article that was recently published that didn't have a whole lot of medical terminology for her to start reading and she can progress with her research from there.

I'm sorry you received nasty FMs, but from some of the comments on this thread it doesn't surprise me. Just know that most likely it comes from a lack of 'real' knowledge on the procedure and pros and cons.

I reccomend you check out the pregnancy and parenting board on LIfamilies where you might be better received by women who are currently pregnant or mothers and have done the research and made the decisions regarding circ.

I think a good portion of the women on this board are not quite at that stage of their life and therfor may not have put in the time to research topics such as these.

my husband is Romanian too!! Maybe that is why he is a halfie like I explained in my previous post. It must be a European thing. Although he wasnt born in Romania. But he is first generation.

none of us claimed to have 'real' knowledge on the subjet. we were all sharing our experiences and stating what we had heard about it.

Re: Is DH snipped or unsnipped????????

I don't think I would.. there is no known health benefit for a child to be snipped.. and I wouldn't want to put a newborn through that trauma..2 weeks to heal.. the cut will be open to urine and poop all the time.. and God forbid if there is an infection (though it is quite routine)..

about cleanliness, its part of hygiene.. when you bath the child, (sorry for the visual) pull the skin back and show the child how to clean his body, so as he gets older, he can do it himself..

with all that said, not sure what i will be do.. i hoping for

I know that since I dont have children I am not allowed to ever have an opinion on anything pertaining to children in my life - that is just not allowed now is it

I have done a LOT of research on it bc as I said in my family, the men are NOT so each parent in my family had to make the choice to continue with that custom or to choose something different.

I know that there is not any medical reason to have it done AND actually by the time our sons are grown the rate of uncut will PROBABLY surpass the rate of men that ARE cut due to a changing way of thinking in the US and also a rising rate of people coming in from other countries.

That being said. Men aren't the most cleanest of people and I think one less thing to take care of is always a good thing AND since none of the men in my family had this done at birth I know MORE than on situation where it had to be done as an adult and that is very painful.

She asked, we answered. You are right though there is a lot of misinformation on this board but I seriously doubt anyone is going to make a final decision based on the NW board on LIW
