Is Engagement Ring Insurance needed??

Just curious--if any of you have gotten your engagement ring insured--Do you recommend that?
& if so, would you recommend doing it as part of Home Owner's Insurance or should it be done separately?

Yes I think you do it through Homeowner's Insurance.

Yes, mine is insured. We could never afford to replace it otherwise if something happened to it. Ours is a part of our home owners now, used to be on our renter's insurance.

DEF get ring insurance girl.. God forbid you lost or had your ring stolen.. you know? I was paranoid to wear my ring until I got the policy!

You can go either with your homeowner's or separately.. do whatever is best for you, but def do it!

its much too valuable to not have it insured. I feel so much better knowing that if I lose it or it gets stolen or the diamond falls out, I can replace it.

I think if you have homeowners insurance, you can easily add it to that policy with an additional rider, but you should see what the coverage is.

Some policies give the appraisal value, while others give a replacement value.

I am definitely going to get my ring insured but we don't have our home yet (i just graduated college & i am living with my parents), do any of you know of where I can get my ring insured without having to do homeowner's insurance?? or do you know where I can go to find info?

You can definitely insure your ring without homeowner's insurance or renter's insurance. All what the policy is, is a ryder. I found this website that might be of some assistance... http://www.jewelersmutual.com/

I agree with everyone - insure your ring. My FH works in insurance and is adamant about having everything we own insured. We don't own a home - we have a jewelry/personal belongings policy with Chubb.
On a side note, my sister lost her ring two years after she was married - and she hadn't insured it. Her 2 year old daughter got a hold of it for one minute and it disappeared (this was about 4 years ago). SHe has since replaced it, but nothing can replace that 'original' ring!

JulyBride..what else do you have insured. I'm always up in the air about what to ensure. Like if we get a big screen TV do we insure it or just jewelry and stuff?

My e-ring is insured under a personal items policy under State Farm. They were easy to work with. We also have renters insurance w. them, but the jewelery coverage under renters did not cover the value of my ring, so I got a seperate policy for it. The best part is they send you reminders to renew, I probably would have forgotten this year if they had not reminded me

Betty - we have all our jewelry insured (watches, braclets, necklaces, ect.), as well as our electoronics (big screen TV, ect.). You can just about insure anything and it is definitly worth it!

I let my FH take care of all the details but I think it is around $600 a year for everything
