Is everyone...

keeping their last name or changing it to FH's.

I really really really dont like FH's last name and i dont see the point of changing it. My grandmother didnt change, my mom didnt change so why should i. FH when we first started dating told me he would never marry someone who wont take his name, but i feel like im giving up part of who i am. Its MY name and i want to keep it.

Thoughts???

i think you should do what is best for you!

i want to take his name, but i think as a hyphen so i can keep my name in there as welll....so we shall see as time gets closer!!!

I am changing b/c it's really important to FH.

so funny u are mentioning this: yesterday we ordered take out at the window, and the cashier asked for name, so FH gave his last. I felt really surprised how natural that felt, and it made me so happy
sounds like we are becoming a real family

I am a traditionalist so I will be taking FH's last name. It all depends what is right for you and want you want to do....

I hate FH's last name but I will be taking it anyway because I hate mine even more...My grandma made my grandpa change it from the rest of the family because she didn't like them...and if I don't keep it the name will die when I get married so that's why I'm taking his....even though its waaaaaaaaaaaay worse than mine.

its really whatever you want to do. I think if i was an only child then i might want to keep my name so my last name won't die out.....but my brother is carrying on the name so i'll be taking my FH's last name.

i had always thought I would be keeping mine. then I thought maybe I could hyphenate it. but our last names rhyme so it sounds ridiculous hyphenated. so now i'm back to square one. i keep going back and forth.

in the end, it really depends on what you want to do.

This issue is a struggle between my feminist and traditionalist self.

I plan on adding his name to my last name, NO HYPHEN. I don't have a middle name so I think I may use my current last name as a middle name and then his as my last name. But I will call myself and ask to be referred to as ms. maiden name. I think I may switch over to his when we have children.

I totaly want the children to have their fathers name which is stupid because im the only child and my name will die with me anyway. But as stated by MarjorieFrank its my feminist self that i just cant ignore.

LoL. FH doesn't mind me not automatically taking his name, but I asked FH if our children can have my name.. That got him mad! LOL

I'm taking his. He was actually really surprised about it and didn't think I'd do that. Maybe because I'm so liberal and radical with a lot of things? One day I said something like 'man, I cannot WAIT to take your last name!' and he was like 'really? with a hyphen or not?' and I said 'without...just your last name' and he flipped! He was ecstatic about it...it was really sweet to see him get so happy about it.

Considering I was going to legally change my last name to get rid of my current last name..yea I will be taking FH's last name.. I can't wait. He has a nice last name too so that makes it even better.

i am so torn about this...

i always imagined taking my husbands last name. I am a bit traditional and always thought I would, esp for our future kids sake...bc its easier for them than having to wonder why mommy and daddy have different names..

however, I HATE FHs last name....mine is so much better which makes me want to just keep mine. (hyphenating is not an option bc it would be too long)...fh is fine with whatever i decide but i dunno what to do
