Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
We're between two cruises for our honeymoon. The one I prefer goes to Turkey instead of France, but it leaves on Monday October 30 at 7pm (we're getting married on the 29th, but our wedding is over at 5:30pm)Is it crazy to take a 9 or 10pm flight to Italy that night so we can meet the cruise that leaves on the 30th? Otherwise, we'd be waiting until November 10 to take our honeymoon.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
Do you think you can have a good time the day of your wedding without worrying if you'll make it to the airport on time? How long will it take to get to the airport? We never considered flying the same night, we're going to fly the next morning. Our wedding also ends at 5pm.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
You'll be exhausted, but it's a very long flight, right? Are you able to sleep on a plane? If so....and it's REALLY what you want to do... Go for it!
(I'll be thinking of you that weekend!)

Wait a second. That means that your 'wedding night' will be spent on the plane?
Mile-high club anyone?

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
My only concern for you is that if for any reason there is a flight problem you will miss the boat. We are taking a cruise out of Rome on Oct 16 for our honeymoon. We are arriving in Rome on the 15th (overnight flight the 14) because we didn't want to take the chance.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
My FH and I are considering this too since the cruise we want to go on from Italy leaves the day after our wedding. My only major concern is that a delay of any kind (ie. airline, getting from airport to cruise ship, etc) can cause us to miss the boat...and then what the heck would we do???

JMHO, but I would wait..spread out the fun!!
Seems like extra, unnecessary stress and exhaustion.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
If YOU and FH/DH are comfortable doing it I say go for it. IMO it is too much for me, I would need a moment to relax, wind down and take everything in. This is why FH and I do not plan on going on our HM until a couple days after the wedding.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
Your call... but I would definitely WAIT! We are going to Italy too - on a scheduled trip... we were able to pick one that leaves the Wednesday after our (Saturday) wedding and with all I have going on right now (I have 8 days left!!!) I tell you, my head would EXPLODE if I had to think about prepping and packing for a 2 week trip on top of everything else.AND you will be tired.
Think about it... there is a lot to do right before your wedding.. A LOT.. and this will add quite a bit more...

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
I agree with the girls who said to wait... it feels like a little too much pressure and rushing for me, but that's JMO...Flights can be delayed, you could be having a blast at the wedding and wish you could go out with friends or family afterwards, linger with OOT guests, etc.
Maybe plan a short trip somewhere close for the first days after the wedding to de-compress, and then the HM in Nov.?
It would extend the fun...

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
If this is something you REALLY want to do of course it can be done but I imagine it will be stressful having the idea of making a flight in the back of you mind during your wedding. If you have your heart set on it, I say go for it but just do all of your preparing before. You will be exhausted so I have no doubt you will sleep like a baby even if you were sitting in the cargo hold..lol

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
Yes, I think that's crazy...way too much rushing around in one day! You won't be able to relax until your on the plane, that is if you aren't afraid of flying! I would hold off if you can until at least the next day.

We flew to Hawaii two days after the wedding and it wasnt enough time. Give yourself time. Enjoy your wedding day and dont rush!

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
If you're up to it and don't want to delay your honeymoon for a few weeks, which I completely understand, I say do it. If something happens and you miss the boat, you just meet them at the first port and move on. But you have to know that's a possibility going in, and if you're ok with that, then go for it.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
I could never do that... too stressful for me. I would wait until Nov 10... its only about 1 week later.. so its not like you are waiting a long time anyway... & you'd prob fly a day or two before that.. so thats makes it onhly like 7-8 days after.... Definitely the best option in my opinion.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
IMHO, crazy! Our wedding was a Saturday night and we were so glad we didn't fly out until Monday morning. We had a chance to unwind a bit, and not worry about packing all of our honeymoon stuff while trying to still get the wedding taken care of.

Re: Is flying to Italy the night of my wedding crazy?
Of course, it's really up to you and FH and how badly you want to do that. Our wedding was also over at 5:30, but by the time we got packed up and said goodbye to our families, we didn't leave the hall until almost 8:00. We also went to Europe and spent our wedding night in our house and flew out at 9:00 pm the following night. I was so thankful for that extra time and packing was one less thing I had to do before the wedding.
