Is it me or do people just need to catch up with the times?

Sorry ladies, but I need to vent. I just found out that some people that are attending my shower (haven't figured out when it is yet) have made comments behind my back that since I have been living with my fiancee for two years that I should not have registered for gifts. Some even think that I should not even be having a shower. Yes, it is true my fiancee has been living with me for two years, however if these old-fashioned ladies ever came to my apartment (which some of them have) they would know that practically everything I own was hand-me-downed from my parents or my sister (who lived in the apartment before me). My fiancee and I do not own china or a decent set of everyday dishes, decent pots and pans, etc. I was living on my own all throughout college and my fiancee moved in from his mom's house and brought nothing but a dresser with him.
Was I wrong for registering? I just think that all brides being married for the first time deserve a shower regardless if they live with their fiancee or not. Besides, what about future brides/grooms that have already moved out of their parents homes and live on their own. Do they not deserve a shower too? Am I crazy or do these ladies just need to get with the times?

There are so many people who are behind the times or who do not have a clue! You should be able to register, don't listen to them!!!

I think some people just need something to complain about sometimes. You have every right to register and have the wedding of your dreams for that matter.

Of course you have the right to register. Do not listen to those ladies.There are some people who live to complain and talk about others.

Every bride deserves a shower regardless of whether or not you live with FH.

Exactly, don't let them get to you. If they don't agree with the shower, tell them not to come...you'll have more fun without them there.

I had a shower and got almost everything off of my registery and we lived together first! Like you all our stuff was hand-me downs since I have been living on my own for so long!

People are old-fashioned. I saw so much of that in my wedding planning and some people weren't even old and they were old-fashioned!!!

I'm with you... lived w/my FI for a year ... bought my house almost two years ago. When I did, I did not invest in anything nice b/c I wanted good things when I got married!

Anyone who doesn't feel like you 'deserve' a shower shouldn't come! How terrible to make someone feel bad like that ... keep your head up, sweetie! The people who love you will come through in a big way & make your dreams come true!!!

Don't listen to them. You absolutely deserve a shower. There will always be people complaining about something. Don't let them ruin this beautiful time in your life!

You deserve a shower and you should not have to explain yourself. Tell them to get over themselves. Their comments sound so childish...tell them to grow up and get over themselves. People can be such nitpicker....aawwwwwwwhhhhhh

How Rude is all I thought to say...

I live with Ron for over 2 years and We have nice things that we bought in Target, Kmart ect as we needed them.. I Never really cook so I have crappy pots and pans..

I didn't want to get anything new knowing I would eventually have a shower..

People should mind their business on where we live and what we need.

If they don't like it stay home!

I agree with everyone else - EVERY bride is entitled to a shower regardless of the living situation. I do NOT think there is anything inappropriate about registering in this situation.

These same people complaining about how this is not 'right' would probably be the same ones to complain if there was no registry. I can almost hear it, 'Not only is SHE having a shower I have no idea what I should get her. She didn't even register' :)

My (now) MIL is one of these people and she responded by not attending my shower.:

My advise is to ignore these people.

I was the same way and I heard the comment from my MIL 'what does she need to register for, she has everything!' Meanwhile, I had all hand me downs and nothing new while we lived together before and I registered away! I didn't have a lot bought from my registry though but just the same, register like crazy girl!

Don't pay any mind to them. That is completely RUDE. I am so used to those old fashioned coments. I don't live with my Fh but some of my friends do and when ever i mention it i get those 'eyes' or comments. I say forget those who don't understand the times today. Enjoy every minute of planning and all of your new things.

Dont listen to them!! I lived in an apt for almost 8 years...I had everything that I needed but I still registired and had a shower. Now that we have a house, I am using all the new stuff and the old stuff was thrown away!!
