is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

Since we are basically putting our first born up for the cost of this wedding, we have decided that we would like to be at our cocktail hour. My sister - getting married in January, says 'it's weird when the bride and groom are there'...what do you think?

I am very traditional...I won't be seen, but it's perfectly ok. It's your day do whatever you want!

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

We attended ours and it went by so quickly, it was lots of fun. I am glad we did, b/c we got to speak to a lot of our guest and it gave us more time to party at the reception instead of doing table visits. A little before the cocktail hour ended we went to the bridal suite to freshen up. Its your decision, your day.

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

What we did was spend about 20 mins alone in the bridal suite...then we joined the cocktail hour. We really are glad that we did that....we had time to see and speak with everyone.

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

We're not going to attend our cocktail hour. We decided that we'd really like to have those few moments after our wedding service to be alone and catch our breath! Our bridal assistant will bring us food and drinks to the bridal suite.

We're looking forward to the anticipation that will build for our 'grand entrance'.

I've seen lots of brides and grooms attend their cocktail hour. Not weird at all. We just decided not to.

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

we stood at the door of the cocktail room and greeted our guests as they arrived. I really liked doing that. The only bad thing was that close family was supposed to arrive early for pics, and they didn't - so we kept getting pulled out for pics. And even though I was there, I still didn't really get to see all the stations or taste any food, but I think that's bc the photographer had me all wound up. All in all, I am glad I was at the cocktail hour-

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

I started off with a traditional frame of mind, but now that the wedding is costing us so much we WILL be at our cocktail hour. We are also seeing each other before the ceremony for pics, we just dont want to miss any of our reception at all.

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

We thought it would be a good time to greet some of our guests as opposed to spending the entire reception having to walk around and find everyone.
I've been to a few weddings where it seems like the whole night the bride and groom are walking around finding guests instead of on the dance floor having a good time.

We plan on joining ours as well. We will start in the bridal suite, but pop in to see how it is going and to start visiting.

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

We were at ours. There is not way I could miss it in that beautiful room at flowerfield. The bridal assistant suggested that we may want to go out ten minutes into it and give people a chance to get there and make our entrance and that is what I did. I loved my cocktail hour room and it went by fast enough let alone not being there.

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

We plan on attending ours. First off - it's a $$$ issue - paying big $$ for the food, would like to enjoy it. I'm also hoping to get some 'Hi and Thanks for coming' out of the way so I can really enjoy the reception. My biggest fear is spending the entire reception going from table to table and saying Hi, finally finishing and then realizing I missed my entire reception

It's 100% a personal choice. I've been at weddings that went both ways - nothing weird about it at all!

Re: is it weird to be at the cocktail hour?

I wanted to attend mine at least for a little bit, especially since the cocktail hour room is sooooo beautiful, but FH is totally against it
He says he wants to spend time w/me alone for a while, and make a grand entrance.
I LOST that fight !!!

Re: is it weird to be at the ****tail hour?

My FI and I will be attending our ****tail hour. We want to be in on everything that has to do with our day, especially, since we're paying for it!!! And plus, I'm not going around from table to table at the reception all night - I want to be on the dance floor and partying it up.
