What do you think? I know it looks great but is it worth it?

Re: Is it worth the $1.50/envelope for Caligraphy?
I am thinking of doing my own hand calligraphy. I am going to start practicing again and decide.

I would love to do ours on the computer ourselves, but my printer is tempramental, and I dont want to have to take the risk of messing up my envelopes.

$1.50 per envelope is a very fair price. Computer calligraphy is all fine and good, but it almost looks too perfect. The beauty of hand calligraphy is that there is variation and you can tell when something is done by hand vs. a computer. I paid $2.50 each for outers only (didn't have inners) with matching ink.
And jtodaro--just because someone is charging less than $2 does not automatically mean that they're 'doing it by computer anyway' I know a few calligraphers who charge less than $2/envelope and they do beautiful hand work.

The 1.50 per envelope is for hand caligraphy. We are actually getting a deal because my FMIL is getting married and having hers done by the same lady and she is giving us a deal.
It is beautiful and unique....I just have to decide if it is worth the $$$ at this point.
Thank you everyone for your input!

When the hand done calligraphy is done right it looks so much better than the computer. Make sure you see samples. I think $1.50 is a fair price...is that for the inner and the outer?

OK ill rephrase, if they are charging you under $2 then they are most likely doing it on a computer. Personally I think its crazy to spend a couple of hundred bucks on something that you can easily do yourself. I think it too us an hour or two to print all of the invites on the computer.

I think my invites were worth every single penny I paid for them and that includes the envvelopes. I used www.bloomingquill.com and could not be happier. I still have people that compliment my invites, envelopes included. Your invite sets the tone for your wedding.
IMO- Don't do labels- it totally ruins the entire presentation of your invites.

I haven't read through this whole thread so sorry if someone already said this. I was just going to have them printed on the computer... didn't have the budget for it but a friend of my FMIL offered to do calligraphy for us, it came out absolutely beautiful...I loved them. Only down side, most people received the invite this past Monday (the day that it snowed) and many of them were smeared from getting wet. I felt bad... all that woman's hard work and they got messed up in transit. I'm guessing if I had computer printed they wouldn't have smeared. I don't regret it though, they were absolutely beautiful (while they lasted).

I think it is worth it! I paid over $3.00 for hand caligraphy. It was the scrolly type and was so elegant. I think it sets the stage for how the wedding will be. I do think computer caligraphy can also be nice and I would have done that but my envelopes had a moire lining and could not be done on computer. Of course, my husband said I should just e-mail everyone!

If you can do them yourself on a computer - I would. I did mine and they came out perfect! Any way you can save $$ I say!

I had computer calligraphy & paid about $1 for each. I did not use an inner envelope as one is not really necessary these days & would add to the cost!!
I thought it was worth it b/c I handed her my list on Monday & by thurs they were done! She used the same font as the invite & they came out beautiful. For me, it was worth $100. I didn't want to fool around with our computer & mess up the envelopes & I didn't want to spend the time on it either!!
