Just got off the phone with my friend who told me that we 'are stupid' if we go to St. Lucia on our hm. She said she went there for a day on a cruise and almost got mugged. She said it's very poor and not very nice I have heard so many nice things about it - does anyone feel the same way???
we were so closed to booking it there, but now I am worried.
I need some honest opinions - TIA

Re: Is St. Lucia Safe?
We went to St. Lucia last year and stayed at Sandals (Grande). As everyone else was saying, a lot of these islands are poorer and some areas may not be safe. I loved the island, and had an amazing HM. I felt nervous during the 1 hour van ride to the resort from the airport... Once I was there I was fine, however we did not leave the resort to go into the towns. I didnt think that was a safe thing to do. There was so much to do that there was no need to leave the resort anyway....

Re: Is St. Lucia Safe?
That's just craziness!
Several of my friends went to St. Lucia for their honeymoons over the past year and loved it. Not one of them mentioned that it might be unsafe. You have to keep in mind that you can get mugged right here on Long Island or in NYC if a mugger so chooses to do it. There isn't a place in the world where there is absolutely no danger. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time in St. Lucia.

I went to St. Lucia a few years ago and fell in love with the island, I didnt just stay at my resort I went out into Castries and went to the Friday night Jump Up Party, everyone I met from that island couldnt have been nicer.

You have just as much a chance of being mugged or pickpocketed in Rome.
Agreed. We went last year on our honeymoon and stayed Sandals Grande.....felt completely safe!! Also agree with the poster about the driving...it can be a bit scarey!!!
My one tip to all those going to St. Lucia.....if you fly straight into the airport at the south of the island, when you get through customs, don't let anyone 'carry your bags' for you.....its a total of 20 feet to the taxi stand....and then they want a tip for it.....we fell for it when we got there (as the doors to the outside were closed and we didnt know how far we had to walk), but didnt when we got there...said no thanks!! We'll manage!! and they were nice about it......just a tip!
