Is there a doctor in the house???? UPDATED

Is there a doctor in the house???? UPDATED

I dont know what is wrong with me. About a week ago I started to feel random beating of my heart....like POUNDING...but only for like 1 or 2 beats and then it would go back to normal. I dismissed it thinking it was nothing.

But, last night it started again and hasn't stopped. It' been beating randomly and HARD throughout the day. And when I walk..even short distances (from the kitchen to the bathroom) I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest. Could this be anxiety?? I don't really feel anxious. My mom is freaking out and wants me to get my arse to the doctor but I have a meeting in the morning that I can't miss. Anyone know what this could be??

UPDATE: I went to the Dr. today. He did an EKG which was turned out to be normal. The Dr.said that he had some concerns and he referred me to a cardiologist. I'll be making an appointment tomorrow morning. He told me lay off soda/coffe...which I dont have that much of to begin with...and he said that I have to go to the ER if I feel my heart racing for long periods of time. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for your concern!!!

I actually stopped drinking soda/ice coffee because I thought that it might be that. But last week, and then again yesterday I got really light headed and had to sit because I thought I was going to faint.

That happened to me around Easter time. I went for a whole round of tests and the drs come up with nothing. Between a new house and a wedding I wrote it off to anxiety. But it can't hurt to call your dr.

I don't know about the heart beat - sounds like it could be anxiety or panic attacks but I'm not the one to ask - but I have been lightheaded before and it turned out to be dehydration, so drink plenty of water and maybe you'll fix it, or can rule it out at least. When it happened to me, I was getting lightheaded at times throughout the day for several days, maybe even a week or two. I went in to the doctor, they thought I might be dehydrated, hooked me up to an IV for a few hours, made me promise to drink more water when I got home, and I was good as new. Haven't experienced lightheadedness since then. Good luck, and feel better!

That happens to me every once in awhile too, it does feel strange and I did go for an EKG and it came up as nothing. I think it is anxiety but just to be sure if it doesn't go away go get it tested.

it sounds like it could be anxiety, i'd get to the doctor asap because you're only going to worry yourself more wondering what it is.

Also if you're feeling dizzy are you getting enough fluids and ating enough?

If you gave up caffeine entirely instead of just decreasing it gradually the dizziness could be from that too possibly. are you getting headaches?

could be many things. have you ever tested your thyroid? have you noticed recent weight loss? hyperthyroidism can have those symptons...

so can dehydration....

i would def. go to your doc!

Well, have you been feeling any other symptoms? Such as headache, nausea, voimiting, chest pain or tightness, SOB, pain down your arm? Have you been eating well, drinking fluids? Are you allergic to anything? Sorry so many questions but these will probably be the same ques the docs ask in order to rule out other things before anxiety diagnosis. but i would also see the dr. asap if tests are needed.

I agree with Soon2BeMrs2006. I think you should definitely make an appt with your doctor. And I also very much agree with what she said about the caffeine. That is probably the reason why you are feeling dizzy.

I hope you feel better soon!!!

It could be a condition called SVT. It's easily treatable but not something to wait on. You should call your PMD for a referral to a cardiologist and get an event monitor. Also have your PMD in the meantime check your blood for your thyroid levels. HTH

Call the dr. Don't self diagnose yourself. It will make you nuts! I have a great dr if you need one.

Not a doc here either, but I know that when my Dh was having anxiety attacks, he complained of suddenly being VERY aware of the rhythm of his heart and saying that it seems very irregular.

Sorry to crash, but my brother had the same thing. I am not saying it is the same thing, but you might want to go to the doctor to get it checked out.

When he was doing nothing at all, his heart would start beating really strongly and fast. He showed my mom, and when she asked what he was just doing, he was ironing...something simple that shouldn't make your heart race.

It was called Pulminary Tachicardia...something like that. It was a part of his heart that was sending a signal too many times to his heart, so they actually had to do surgery.

It was nothing that he did wrong, it is already pre-determined in your genes when you are born to get it. I also had a professor in college that had it.

I would just go get it checked out, to be on the safe side. They gave him something to monitor his heart when he did so they could have a reading of what was going on in his day to day life.

I agree. My mother worked in the heart center and they'd send people home with indigestion all the time embarrassed, but she always said, 'you could've saved your life, be this smart [to get checked out] next time too please'

me, too... last Christmas. And I would get a quick cough with it, too. Docs couldn't find anything. I think they chalk things up to anxiety too quickly, but...

I would DEFINITELY go check it out... at least right after the meeting. Make an appointment now so at least you have the peace of mind that you have an appointment waiting for you.

I once had similar symptoms and it turned out to be a simple iron deficiency - anemia. Go to the Dr. though, get bloodwork and an EKG.
