When FH and I got engaged, there were two things we really wanted for our reception.
1.) To have a breakfast brunch, rather than a dinner reception.
2.) For it to be in a location that overlooks the water.
I am having a heck of time finding ANYPLACE that satisfies both requirements. Is it really that unusual?
I've contacted several places, and they say that they 'don't do that' (breakfast brunches). I know Sans Souci does it (but it really too far from my ceremony location). Captain Bill's doesn't do it. Three Village Inn 'might' do it (have to go talk to them). I found two places that actually have breakfast brunch wedding menus, but neither is on the water.
I've tried to convince FH to decide which is more important...the food or being on the water (because right now, being on the water isn't important to me anymore). Right now he is not willing to forego either 'requirement.'
I feel like this...
Am I crazy? Am I asking for the impossible?

Well, I have never been to or been invited to a breakfast brunch wedding, but it sounds like a good idea have you tried the Riverview in Oakdale?

I don't think most places really do that

Well, it doesn't overlook the water but it does overlook the park... FFIL got married at Terrace on the Park (Flushing) and had a breakfast brunch.

Re: Is this really unusual?
I believe the Miileridge Carriage House does a brunch, but it is not on the water.
Did you try the Snapper Inn?
ETA: I think you'd have to finda place that holds other events besides weddings. Brunches are mroe common for showers & christenings & things. I think that's whay the Carriage hosue has it, b/c it is small & they do more non-wedding parties in that building.
How many people are you having?

I wouldn't think it should be that hard to accomodate both criteria! Have you tried Land's End? It was too pricey for us for a dinner reception but perhaps it would work for breakfast/brunch.
Or perhaps Atlantica or Giorgios? There's also Lombardi's on the Sound, or Danfords. It was very important to FH and I for our reception to overlook the water so I completely understand!

If you do a search on LI restaurants with a water view, you can find something. Better et, here you go:
I have to say I favor the Riviera, but not sure if they do brunch

I think that is such a fantastic idea! I also think that breaking the mold of the 'traditional' LI/NY wedding is a lot of work. You're not asking the impossible - just facing a challenge. I would try contacting all of the traditional on-the-water LI reception sites to see if they can accommodate you. Then think outside the box and contact some other places that might not be the first place you think of to have a reception. Those places *might* be more willing to work with you. Good luck!
I just went to the EXACT thing you described at Russo's on the Bay for FH's cousin's wedding. The CH was a hit... fresh fruit, eggs, muffins and of course mimosas and bloody mary's.

What about Danfords? They have a brunch and are on the water. Lisa

I know Rockhill Country Club will. It has a fabulous view on a clear day of the sound because it is located at a high altitude.

Try Snapper Inn (in Oakdale). They don't have a brunch wedding menu - but they do serve brunch in the restaurant. You might be able to talk to them about it.
Years ago, I know Chateu La Mar (didn't spell that right) in Lindenhurst used to (not sure if they do now, but it doesn't hurt to try there.

Have you tried the Snapper Inn? I don't know if they do brunch but you could call them. They are on the water. Also, again I don't know about the brunch thing, but Claudio's is on the water too.

Re: Is this really unusual?
Thanks for the input.
The Snapper Inn is on my list of places to try. Thanks for the suggestion of Russo's, but it is too far from my ceremony location (Fire Island Lighthouse) and I'm afraid it might be out of my price range.
You would think that if a places does a Sunday brunch, that they could also do a Sunday brunch wedding, but that is not necessarily the case (see Captain Bill's). That is what I am finding so frustrating.
And I focused my attention on looking at 'alternate' places, not the regular catering hall type venues. That's how I found the two places that have the breakfast option (Courtyard Cafe in Ronkonkoma and I just see where Maine Maid Inn has it as well).

I don't have any suggestions, just wanted to say that I would LOVE to go to a wedding brunch so much better than a dinner. Good luck!

Re: Is this really unusual?
And we are looking for 60 to 75 guests, so we don't need a HUGE place.

Have you checked Timber Point Country Club? I know they cater for breakfast and lunch meetings during the week, but I'm not sure about Sunday's.
I can't see why, if you will be vacating by 2 or 3 in the afternoon, that they can't accomodate you. I think it's a great idea - very traditional from days gone by

Re: Is this really unusual?
I highly recommend Danford's Inn in Port Jefferson, if it is not too far out for you. They do an excellent brunch and since it is a hotel, you and your guests can stay overnight, which is very convenient. It overlooks the water where the ferry comes in from Bridgeport and they have a really nice room for parties upstairs.
Good Luck!

How about trying some of the Country Cllubs that are on the water?
