Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

My dad's girlfriend's mother gave me a gift for my shower 1 1/2 weeks ago. My dad's girlfriend has since asked TWICE where her mother's thank you card is.

I didn't think 1 1/2 weeks was a long time to send out a thank you but maybe i'm wrong? Or is she overreacting?????

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

I think it is silly, it has only been a week, if it was like 2 months I would say ok but I think you are right for being upset

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

That's crazy....she shouldn't be flipping out at all, now if it was 3 months later...I think you're fine as long as you get them out in the next 3-4 weeks.

The gf is probably getting flak from her mom if you received it, like it, etc.

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

some people just stick firmly to the 1 (to 2) week 'rule' and assume everyone else does, too....i agree, it hasn't been that long....and not everyone can drop and write 20 thank yous....ignore it and simply say you've been rather busy and you'll get to it soon.

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

First of all, you have at least 4 weeks to send out a shower thank you...

Second of all.... who ASKS for a Thank YOU????

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

i think she's over-reacting. her mom is probably trying to be all 'traditional' and thinks a TY should be sent IMMEDIATELY after the gift.

i think it's SOOOOO tacky to have ppl ask for TY card. i mean did you send the gift for the SOLE purpose of receiving acknowledgement?!

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

Thank you...just wanted to check with you girls. I didn't think of this, some of you said it, as did my friend at work when I told her about this...it really is tacky to ASK for a thank you.

That's crazy. It's been a week and a half! Not a year and a half! Reminds me of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode when Robert & Amy get married and they come home from their honeymoon and Marie is asking them about their thank you notes. Hopefully you are not dealing w/ a Marie Barone.

I remember that!!!!!!!

Seriously tho, just write her a quick TY and send it out even if you haven't done the others yet. This way at least she's off your back about it.

She's crazy don't worry about her.
But I would send out my thank-you's soon. It's better to get them out quickly.

(sorry, this is a little off topic, but might make you laugh) That reminds me of FH's grandmother....after our e-party, i sent out thank yous rather quickly because FMIL made it clear it was expected of me to get them out fast to the grandparents (which really wouldn't have mattered in reality) so the first one i write out is FH's dad's mom's b/c she gave us honestly, the most meaningful gifts......well, she also spent the entire summer and part of fall with her sister in WV instead of in her home in cocoa beach....so in OCTOBER when she decided to go home, she can't find it anywhere and causes a big ruckus as FH thinks i purposely didn't send her one. I wanted to smack her....instead i wrote out a new one.....but it was a total 'Marie' moment!!!!

I don't think I'd be able to deal with that. I would have smacked FH too if he suggested I purposely didn't do it.

Re: Is this ridiculous..or am I overreacting?

I am huge on thank you notes and I gotmine out rather fast for the shower. As for the wedding, my half were mailed out. DH wanted to do his half but didn't so I ended up doing everyone but his BP and immediate family. We are married two months already and it makes me nuts.

HOWEVER

You are a full grown adult who does not need to be disciplined into doing anything by a parent or anyone else for that matter. You are certainly within a window of time that is acceptable for a shower thank you note. Don't let them bully you.

I think she's overreacting. We're you supposed to start doing the thank you cards as soon as the party ended?
