FH and I, as a general rule always give $300 for a nightime wedding, and $250 for a daytime...Depending on the realtionship, we give more...Brother's wedding, we gave $600...best friends, $500. We are by no means wealthy, but my cousin told me that $300 is not enough? I always thought that that was genorous...please enlighten me, because now I'm confused!

You guys must be rich. We're not, we only give $200 total from both of us.

i think you should give what you can afford. $300 seems pretty generous coming from a couple who is saving for their own wedding. people should be grateful for any gift that they receive. i know i am!

I think $300 is perfect! FH & I usually give between $250 - $300 depending if either of us are in the wedding party or if it is one of our really good friends then we usually give $500.

Re: Is this right?
we only give 200 (100 /head) when we go to a wedding if his brothers or my brother or sister get married im sure it will be more... but other then that .. 200 from the gifts we received thats very standard unless you are the parents or godparents they gave a ton more

Re: Is this right?
i was thinking about $200 as well (if they're paying $100 per head). i guess it depends on where they're having the wedding and what you feel comfortable giving. don't feel pressured to give more just because someone else did. for family or really close friends i wont mind paying a little more.

Maybe it's because I'm living in PA now and not on Long Island, but I could never afford to give such generous gifts, unfortuntely, nor do I expect them! It's not about the gifts, it's about people sharing our fabulous day! Not to make anyone feel bad...but all this gift counting and worrying seems a bit much!

Re: Is this right?
I guess it depends on the wedding. My cousin's wedding we're giving $500, but we went to a wedding last week for his cousin and gave $200. I hate that people try to guess how much you're paying pp and give at least that. It's a gift, you're not paying for yourself to be there!

I think that $300 is a generous gift. I usually give $200 - $300, depending on the relationship. Before I met DH, if I went to a wedding solo, I would give betweem $100- $150.

300 is just the right amount. Don't listen to anyone else!

i think your gifts are generous, but i think it's tacky and kind of obnoxious to give less of a gift for an afternoon wedding.

I have to agree with the rest of the bunch. $300 is enough. I give $300 regardless of daytime or night wedding.

If you read my post correctly, it specified 'depending on the relationship'....
And quite frankly, it is obnoxious and tacky of you to insinuate that I am insulting daytime weddings...especially because I am having one!

Re: Is this right?
I think this varies from person to person. SOme people can afford to give $500. Personally, FH and I give $200 unless it is someone we are VERY close with (close friends, close family, etc) we'd give more (haven't had any of those yet). I am totally turned off when people complain about Only getting $150 or whatever. You NEVER know someone's financial situation. They could have lost their job the day before your wedding, they could be struggling at home with buying groceries, etc. I just think it is always nice to just appreciate what people give you.
Not directed at anyone in this thread, I'm just speaking in general

Re: Is this right?
I normally give $300 too. Never been to an afternoon wedding so I couldn't really say anything about that.... But I think more that $300 for anyone who is not family or like you said really close to you guys is being a bit too generous. Besides, you give what you are comfortable with giving and don't worry about if others think it's not the right amount.
