Is this the norm for showers?

Original post by mrsh2b

I'm in my friend's wedding this fall. We are having her shower in July for 60 guests. Her MOH just emailed me that the cost split b/w the 5 BMs is $700. I think that's a lot of money to ask from each girl and they should have okayed it with the rest of us before booking the place. Am I totally out of touch and is this the average cost of a shower?

Wow...that's a lot to ask for. They should have discussed it with everyone first.

That is way too much to ask from 5 BMs especially since it a local shower and yes they should have consulted with everyone before booking the place.

I agree, then you have to pay for your attire. It is unreasonable.

I agree also. That seems like alot to me.

Iagree! Way too unreasonable!!!

Yikes! $700 per BM is A LOT of $$$. I have been in some 'over-the-top' bridal parties but that takes the cake.

The way I read it was that the 700 was to be split between the 5 BM's. If that is the case then NO it isn't too much - quite reasonable actually. Putting up 140.00 isn't alot of $.

If I read it wrong and 700 is expected from each BM then heck no!

Absolutely not!!!!!! $700 each is ridiculous!!!! When I threw my bewst friend's shower it was spit between me, her mom and her sister we each paid $500 for about 40 people. You should def. say something to the MOH ask her to book a place which isn't raping you guys for money!!

That is ALOT of money. There is no way you girls should be responsible to come up with that amount. You guys should have disucssed a budget before anything was ever booked. That is out of control and you should tell her straight out. I know I would!

Okay I've been in 7 bridal parties and was never asked to put in for the shower (is that the norm?). I think $700 is WAY TOO MUCH for a bridesmaid to be putting in. It's understandable if you're the maid or matron of honor but not a bridesmaid.

It's $700 each. AND to top it off, one of the BMs has a wedding the day of the shower so I'm sure she's going to throw a hissy about putting in that much $ to something she's not even going to attend. My FH FLIPPED OUT when I told him this morning. He was lividid that she didn't run it by us before booking. What IS the norm in your experiences? I'm thinking I'm going to cut her off at $500, inclusive of the gift. Is that fair or is that wrong to do?

$700 EACH!!! THAT IS INSANE. I think you girls should say something that its just not affordable, etc...

My one friend and her mom through her sister an expensive wedding show but they did not ask for the BMs to contribute equally because it was something they wanted to do (making it a big thing).

You girls should really group together and say you can only realistically do 'x' and that its not fair to have to pay the $700 sicne you were not a part of the planning or something like that.

I thought if it was $700 divided by 5 that would be ok.

The last wedding shower I did we spent about $100 each before present and there were 4 of us. I am hoping my girls dont pay more than $100 each.

OMG! That is insane!!!! She should have consulted with the bridal party first to see what range everyone was comfortable with! I would think that no more than $200-$300
If it were me, I would contribute only what i can afford.
