Is this the norm for showers?

Original post by mrsh2b

I'm in my friend's wedding this fall. We are having her shower in July for 60 guests. Her MOH just emailed me that the cost split b/w the 5 BMs is $700. I think that's a lot of money to ask from each girl and they should have okayed it with the rest of us before booking the place. Am I totally out of touch and is this the average cost of a shower?

That sounds like a alot of money. They are probably having it at an expensive hall. My sister's ran about that amount but that was my mom's choice and she paid the whole bill. I think if they are asking you to pay for the shower, then you girls should have planned it and had it where you could afford or just contribute what you can afford. We had my friend's shower for about 30 people at irish coffee pub last y r & it was very nice & reasonable.. ran us about $200 each just for the hall. So I guess with double the guests would be about $400. $700 each is INSANE!!!!

TELL THE INLAWS OR WHOEVER BOOKED IT TO PAY FOR IT!!!

wow, that's crazy! There are 7 of us, and we are paying 150$ each for a 3-hour lunch bridal shower at a restaurant! I can't believe that someone would be so rude as to expect you to pay that much without consulting you first!

$700 is crazy, there is no reason for a shower to cost that much. I would be upset if I knew my bridesmaids spent that much. I think that you should talk to the MOH and come up w/ another plan. All of you should have been involved in the shower planning. Good Luck

That is alot for a shower in my opinion! Are the 60 guests all the females invited? I dont know, they should have definitelly ran it by you first-thats alot of money to be spending after everything else
