my hall holds two weddings a night and staggers them by an hour and a half. so my coctail hour doesnt start until 8:30 and everything doesnt end until 1:30am. Is this too late? my church is at 5pm and its a friday night. do you think people will leave early?

if everyone is having fun, i don't think its too late. It's a friday, most people are off the next day as well.

Re: is this too late for a reception?
Same with my hall. I actually didn't have an option at all - they do one room at 7pm and our room is always at 8:30pm. This way you avoid seeing the other wedding party etc etc.
I originally was a bit unhappy about it, but you know what, with Friday night traffic and some people not wanting to get off of work early etc, I think 8:30pm is actually a great time.
Think about it - if some people can't get off work early to make it to the ceremony anyway, and get off at 5pm to go home, shower, dress, etc. and then drive out to the RH, they might not make it by 7pm anyway!

I dont think it is to late. Just expect that some people may not attend the ceremony because it starts at 5:30 and there seems to be a large gap between ceremony ending and reception starting.

My ceremony isn't starting till almost 9PM, which means Cocktail Hour won't start till probably close to 10PM. I got ya beat. LOL! Kidding... It's a Jewish wedding and we're reformed, but fell in love with a Conservative Temple so we have to obey by their rules and not get married till sundown. Everyone is looking forward to a late night wedding and partying. No kids!

I think it depends on who is attending. I know my friends wouldn't mind, but my mom thought it was too late for a lot of the guests that would be attending to start that late. But if your guests don't mind then go for it!

For a friday night i think you will be fine. You may have quite a few guests that go to the reception but not the ceremony. But everyone will be there to party!!!

On a Friday, I don't think so. If you said Sunday, absolutely.
I would not worry

Re: is this too late for a reception?
The key is timing and staffing. Recently went to a wedding and the ceremony started late b/c the bride was running late by only 10 minutes.
But that and b/c IMO there wasn't enough staffing, a lot of people didn't get there food until really late. granted she invited over 200 people but I didn't get food until 11pm and some people at the next table left before they were served (but it was after 12am by that point)

My family (older people) keep complaining and yes it is late but what can you do? FH's sister got married at JT also and her cocktail hour started at 8:15 and nobody left eaqrly.

Crashing..but had to say i have the same exact Reception hall, and time.. I was upset at first b/c i get tired early LOL..but i spoke to other people (family and friends) and they said they were really excited and not to worry about the time. You know there's always going to be someone out there complaining, just ignore it!
OH and also it's your day enjoy it and dont worry. Everyone will have fun and not worry about the time. Jericho Terrace is beautiful! just enjoy.!

Re: is this too late for a reception?
It's all what YOU want! I am getting married on a Friday too...I had the later time orginally and people kept telling me that 'who wants to eat at 10:30 at night'.. so I changed it to the earlier time (630-730 cocktail and 730-1130 reception) cause the more I thought about it.. I felt like they were all right. BUT it's all what you feel comfortable with doing!
