my hall holds two weddings a night and staggers them by an hour and a half. so my coctail hour doesnt start until 8:30 and everything doesnt end until 1:30am. Is this too late? my church is at 5pm and its a friday night. do you think people will leave early?

I think it's fine, if your guests are used to staying up later--such as, Old World Italians who don't eat until 9pm, or mostly younger people who stay out later anyway. If you're going to have a lot of older and elderly guests, though, I'd worry about it.

Re: is this too late for a reception?
Well Friday night weddings usually starts late anyway. But 10:30 is a little bit late for people that went to work all day. It would've been nice if the wedding itself started at 8:30 and the cocktail hr before that...But what can you do now right, whoever leaves is gonna leave regardless... XOXOXO Kitty

My reception will run the same time start to finish .... my parents thought it should start later!

Do you have an older crowd or a younger? I think if you choose that time then people may skip your church piece and not leave work early like they normally do on Fri night weddings

Good point. I mean people do work Fridays and they will prob. be a bit tired if the wedding last all night HOWEVER..if people are having fun it will be alirght..I think the majority of ur guest will be fine

Re: is this too late for a reception?
thanks, i feel better now. most of my guests are younger - and italians that like to party!
and im thinking if they come to the church straight from work they have plenty of time to go home and change....and if they dont make it to the church or leave the reception early...oh well their loss!

Re: is this too late for a reception?
maybe you can compromise on the cocktail hour. Go straight into dinner or start with pass Hourderves then into dinner, to speed it up

nope not to late. people want to leave, let 'em. they are missing out, not you.

Re: is this too late for a reception?
well, it depends on the crowd...
I know my FH's family was getting pretty tired near the end of FBIL's wedding (close to midnight)... mainly becuase the day started so early, and we were running around all day.
MY family would pass-out after 10pm. we have a lot of older people (65+) who just wouldn't be able to handle it.... including my mom!
BUT, if your guests are primarily younger, and your parents / aunts and uncles are only in their 50's, they would easily be able to stay up till midnight... 1am, I dunno. My friends and I are only 35, and we'd be taking a dive at about midnight....

Hey fellow JT bride. I don't think that is too late at all...it's a Friday and most guests will be able to chill the next day. don't sweat it! my CH starts at that time too.

I'm with Kitty on this. We had a fri wedding. cocktail; hr started at 7 and everything went til midnight. We had an after party after that and we had a nice showing but most people were exhausted from working all day and dancing all nite~ consider the age of the crowd as well

Re: is this too late for a reception?
Def not .. I used to work at a catering hall and the later parties are better... people feel better drinking and dancing bc its the right time of night.. plus it will be dark enough to have colorful lights if you wanted.

Re: is this too late for a reception?
same for me - we're getting married at the hall, so the invites are for 7, the ceremony is at 7:30, and the cocktail hour starts at 8.
it's a bit later than I would have liked, but I didn't want an afternoon reception, so, whatever. If people are tired they can leave - but I'm doing my best to make sure it's a rocking party!
