just wondering. fh is about to purchase my ring and it seems that all the vendors we speak to are trying to convince me to get white gold when ive always had my heart set on patinium. i just wonder can you see the difference b/w white gold and platinium after a while?

my ring is platinum. i didn't feel strongly either way (plat v. white gold), but the setting i chose was only $125 more in platinum. The price seemed to be lower than most similar platinum rings, but higher than most similar white gold settings. we figured that for a $125 difference, it would be cheaper in the long run with re-dipping white gold.
most rings have platinum prongs because they hold a stone better, but for the band it just goes to personal preference. if it was a huge price difference we would have gone with white gold, because we wanted to put most of the $$ toward the stone. my mom recommended platinum.
the one thing i was surprised about was how HEAVY my ring was! this was my first piece of platinum jewelry, and it is considerably heavier than my yellow gold gemstone right-hand ring. i've had it since friday though, and i'm *almost* used to it by now

I would go with white gold...it is more durable and if you are looking into the future long term, if you want your ring to be something you pass down to your children/grandchildren one day...... you might be better off with a metal that scratches up less.

I think i found my stone today. ;) however every jeeler i went to recommended white gold bc of the cost. i think that's what we will be going with.
