Isn't $135-$150 asking alot for guest to pay for a hotel?

Original post by rendel

The few hotels that are near my RH are expensive for guests and they want me to block 10-15 rooms in order to get free shuttle service. All my friends had rooms for like $100, what's the deal?

Thats not bad...Mine is $189 a night (but I guess that is good considering if they werent there for ther wedding they would be 350-700 a night!)

As a fellow WM bride I found the same thing. I ended up blocking rooms at the Fairfield in Syosset b/c it was much cheaper. A little bit further away, but not much.

did they offer shuttle from WM?

Ours is $169/night. But, we are paying for our guests to have a shuttle and we are paying for an afterparty there - and we might swing a brunch the next day. Plus - the hotel is the closest by far for our guests.

Is May around graduation time? We looked at hotels in Nassau for my weekend, and it was like $179-$259 b/c it's the weekend of Hofstra's graduation.

I am a WM Bride as well. we just booked a BRAND NEW Hyatt in Garden City for $129/night. They don't have a shuttle yet (but might as my date approaches). The hotel is brand new and beautiful for the price (and 3 miles away!)

Does that hotel have a bar?? I tried calling them and they never called back

There is a new Hampton Inn on Jericho Turnpike. I think it is considered Westbury. Driving west, it is right before the turn to go to Westbury Music Fair.

Mine are 135 a night. I thought the same thing when they gave me ther price. And they would not negociate at all.

And I have to pay $500 for the shuttle!!! No matter how many people book.

I don't think so - I think at my friends wedding in Jersey her hotels came out to $160-something a night and I had to stay mandatory 2 nights because I was in the BP!

I don't think so - while you certainly want to keep costs down for OOT guests, you only have so much control over things. Our block is $179. We found a few hotels that were minimally cheaper, but the rooms at the place we chose are so nice and recently renovated, and we're hosting a brunch the next morning.

i wouldnt stress over the rate.
the way i see it is, the hotel rate is something you cant control. You block rooms, and if people want to stay at that hotel, they can. its their choice. if they feel the rate is too high for them, they can choose another hotel to stay in, and find their own form of transportation.
im sure that if enough rooms arent booked for the free shuttle, you can pay for it, either using the hotels shuttles or finding your own, if thats something that you want to do. But providing transportation is a nice gesture, but certainly not required.

we are blocked at la quinta, at i think $149 a night. with complimentary breakfast in the morning.

Mine is $159 a night .. but considering we're getting married Labor Day weekend, I think we got a pretty good deal. I couldn't find anything cheaper..and most hotels wouldn't even block rooms for that weekend for us.
