How about 'Figlia Mia'? MY best friend danced with her dad to that and their wasn't a dry eye in the house, even if you didn't speak Italian and understand the words.

We're dancing to Lauretta by Enrico Musiani. My Dad has wanted to dance to this song with me since I was born I think. I have the lyrics but they're in Italian. If you're interested I'll post them.

Soon2BeMsZ: Here are a few pics of my church Regina Pacis Votive Shrine, in Brooklyn. Hope you like them!

And me and my dad will also be dancing to 'Lauretta Mia', but I'll have my band sing it as 'Fiorenza Mia', since that is my name!

(The outside.)

(The bell tower. I can't wait to hear those bells ringing as we're pronounced Husband and Wife!)

(The inside.)

(This is what's painted on the ceiling! I feel like I'm getting married at the Sistine Chapel!)

Your name is just beautiful (it is my great aunt's name), and that church is simply gorgeous!!!

I'm an Italian American , but having a Italian/Greek wedding (with the emphasis on Greek).

Italian and Greeek traditions use the Jordan almonds differently .. they each symbolize different things. 5 almonds is the Italian tradition .. Greeks tie them up in odd numbered packages.

That is my biggest dilemma right now, which way to wrap up the almonds! Sad, but true!! LOL

wow that church is amazing!!! I wish I lived in brooklyn!!!!!

Felicia - why dont you keep the favors seperate? have one set of his side and one set of yours.. that way his family gets the greek almonds and your family gets italian ??

FLecia--I dont understand the difference.. MY FH is greek too and we were doing the 5 b/c greeks normally do 3, 5 or 7 almonds. I figured we go right in the middle with the 5. Are they different almonds??

You make a good point, Jo Ann. Thanks for helping me think it out. I don't think the almonds themselves are any different.. I just think the way they are displayed , or presented, are different. From what my FILs told me, the Greek tradition is to tie them up in odd numbers and they are presented on a silver tray to your guests. I thought the odd numbered packages were supposed to be different (some 3s, 5s, 7s.. but maybe I'm wrong)..

Whereas the Italian tradition is just the '5' almonds as part of your favor, or a favor on its own.

I think I'm just sticking to the 5 almond flower idea and calling it a day! We can't please everyone

I played the italian songs which I love the Tarentella and Ti Amo. But the favors the heck what people think

I did the sacchini with the almonds and gave soap petals.

Thats as traditional as we got

I am giving these and then topping them with the almond flower holders. I will also try and get crocheted(sp) almond holders from Italy from the town where FH is from, Durazzano. These vases are pretty big and are by Lenox

These vases are just gorgeous .. can you give me a rough idea how much they are each (I have a feeling they are mucho dinero, huh? )

Where can you get the almonds in bulk? I was thinking of putting the chocolate ones in since I personally can't stand the almond ones

Re: Italian/American Brides...

another question - how will you be displaying the favors? on the tables or handing them out?

The reason that I'm asking is that I'm concerned about loosing the last 1 1/2 hours of the reception doing the 'goodbye' line. We will already be going around for hte cocktail hour and part of the reception to greet everyone so I don't want to 'miss' the whole wedding

Re: Italian/American Brides...

Why not just hand them out at the end, thats what I'm doing....if you think of it, people will actually give you the envelopes at the end anyway. Plus I want people to say goodbye to me instead of just leaving. It should take no more than a half hour to do that.

I'm having the same issue. My mon says that we can't just give soemthing 'cheap' becasue evrybody will talk about us behind our backs.

My fiance is from Chicago and thinks that this NY weddign stuff if just crazy!
I'm giving either olive oil or wine but haven't decided exactly what yet. At least that'll be different for my family!
Good luck

That is probably what I will end up doing. Unfortunately, I know it will take a lot of time because we are expecting about 300 people. So it will take a long time to say hello and then to say goodbye

Re: Italian/American Brides...

I know but what can you do. I just want to be respected by everyone when they come up to me and say goodbye. Common decency, if me and my husband took the time to go around and say hello to everyone, I think the guests should repay the favor by saying goodbye. I've been to weddings where people dont even bother to say goodbye to the couple, like they dont care. When people do say goodbye to me, then they will get a favor. My guest list is 280 and I'm guessing approximately 250 people will come. So I know where your coming from.

Music question....

Is there a website where I can find Italian songs, read the lyrics and maybe even hear them online?
