Ok here's my story, a couple of weeks ago I receive a mail indicating that I have won a sweepstake( 3rd prize winning of $120,000 thousand dollars). I immediately called FH and told him about, he implied that we will talk about it later since he's at work, ok fine. Like he said we talk about it when he came home and I decided not to look into it, but he insist that I call; so the next day I did, I spoke to this lady and she confirm that I have won $120,000( WHAT $120,000) ok that's freaking awesome, so I started asking her questions and all her answers were satifactory to me. Ok here's the catch, they sent me a check for $1,997 and asked me to cash it then send it via moneygram back to them to cover taxes and fees so I did (stupid I know) but i was sold, she made it sound so real, I think im not the only idiot that was taken away by this offer.
So today I went online to my account and realize that my account was missing $1,997 after I have taken out $1,997 a couple of days ago to send out too them. OK WHAT THE HELL. I imediatelly called my bank and they told me that the check i have deposit was cleared but returned back to me, OK, AGAIN WHAT THE HELL, how can a bank clear a check without validating the check first, this *** on the phone indicated that the bank is only allow to hold a check for a length of time before they release the funds without validating the check, after hearing that I really felt like an IDIOT.
So to make a long story short, Im crying my eyes out because I have been taken for a ride I just lost $2,000 and I want it back. What hurts me the most I really didn't believe that they are people out there that would do this to me and WHY ME? to make it worst my mom calls me while im crying and ask me why im crying and I cant even that her anything because she will be like 'ARE YOU THAT STUPID, you don't have anything better to do with $2000 then to give it away' mind you I still have alot of vendors to payoff.
The bad thing is Im still crying I CANT BELIEVE. sry, long but I had to share, please lady's be aware, don't be a greed like I was.

You know with all the wedding stuff, you prabably thought, GREAT!!! we can use this money for the wedding. Don't worry about it. I know it's hard, but you made a mistake, now you know, you've learned from it. There's nothing you can do about it. It's out of your control Don't beat yourself in the head

Definately call better business bureau and authorities, report everything and take report to your bank, any contact number you have for the sweepstakes, anything, report all of it! have you tried calling the number back? Is it still active? I feel for you, If I lost 2grand right now I'd be a wreck too with the vendor payments....
But I'm a firm believer bad things will happen to bad people and all involved will pay in some form when caught.

there has to be somethign you can do
GO to the bank and talk to a supervisor - maybe you are protected in some way
even call the police - give them the information - they had to send the money SOMEWHERE
there has to be SOMETHING you can do!!
dont feel bad!! it happens so often!

I am so sorry you had to go through this. I work in the fraud dept for one of the top banks and I am sorry to say that we see this almost everyday. In some cases people have wired $120,000 out of their account without waiting for the fake check to clear so they end up owing the bank $120,000.
If you sent a money gram or Western Union, call and check to see if it has been claimed. If it has not been claimed you can still get your money back. Other than that, its really unfortunate. You could file a police report listing the individual that you sent the money to as a suspect.
FM me if you need more info and once again I am so sorry.

At this point i would contact the cops and see what they can do. Did you call the number to see if its still connected? I would do this as soon as possible, it will be easier for the cops to help you out.

I agree....get a police report on file and bring it to the bank!!
Think really hard about any personal info you may have given them. Byt def get a police report to the bank asap......thats good to have on file.

Call the police! The reason these scam artists stay 'in business' is that they're counting on people being too embarrassed to go for help. Good luck.
