Re: Jewish Brides

are you all getting new tallits new? Our Rabbi is doing this thing during the ceremony where he wraps us in it- have any of you seen it?

I saw it last year- It is a really nice addition to the ceremony-

I am not doing the circling thing, bc my train is way too long....and I am so nervous about all the attention that I am afriad I will be unsteady on my feet :)

There are quite a bit of us EMJC girls on here...

Andrea- you look really familiar- where are you from?

glad this post is up in the front again...

Re: Jewish Brides

adb1826 -
If your still looking for a Rabi - -
Rabi Alan Block 718-531-7260
Rabi Howard Cohen 631-751-6186

I'm not Jewish my FI is - we are having a duel service. Here's a question - Is there anything I should be doing (FI is not that involved in the planning - LOL - love him to death, but he is clueless in the planning) in terms of tradition? I have a Rabi, and a Chuppah.

I would really like to honor both religious traditions - any advice would be appreciated!!

Hey princess, you met me and jax430 at colonial? How funny is that! Your ketubah sounds beautiful! Micki Caspi does such nice work! My FH's auf-ruf is in 3 weeks also! If you want you can FM the temple.

We aren't doing the circling. I am a klutz and didn't want to trip.

Cindi, are you using Rabbi Androphy?

Edited to say, we are doing bedeken in private with rabbi.

I 3rd Colonial!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also Cindi, I am in Brooklyn. FM me for more details.

Re: Jewish Brides

Hi-

Looks like a lot of us are using Colonial. It was Jax who gave me the advice to go there. We were going to use Stefans...but Colonial offered so much more and was so much nicer... I loved my sample center peice- I didn't work with Claudio, we worked with Irene, she was fantastic!

Who is everyone using for their bands?

Also- does anyone know where to get the broken glass made into a wine glass(then it is incased in glass or crystal) I saw this in teh everything jewish catolouge. It was really cute and different - but I would rather go to a store rather then have to send my glass to them!

Thanks!

Hope everyone is having a good morning!

Cindi

Re: Jewish Brides

The people at OJC also sent me to colonial. Stephans and Spitz and Peck are just so expensive, and for what? It's the same stuff. Spitz did my sister's wedding (she had no choice) and they screwed up the chuppah. they ended up fixing it, but all the pictures in front o fthe chuppah before the wedding had no flowers in them. I am happy to hear such good stuff about Colonial. I will give them a call.

Re: Jewish Brides

Definately call them..I was shocked at their prices. I was really expecting my flowers to cost a few thousand more. Of course I won't know for sure if Imade the right decision until the day of the wedding, but I am pretty confident.

Aren't OJC and EMJC the same caterers?

I heard such horror stories about Spitz and Peck. So much that a friend now refers to then as 'sh*ts and peck' - all her flowers arrived brown and the leaves all had holes in them.

Re: Jewish Brides

Cindy, I've seen the wedding glass options at Yussel's in Merrick and the Zion Lion in New Hyde Park. Isn't it a GREAT idea?

Re: Jewish Brides

We had the same experience with Spitz & Peck and Colonial. We went to S&P first and liked them and were prepared to book with them but then we went to Colonial. The price is about the same for both but Colonial is just giving us a ton more! So we went with Colonial.

Re: Jewish Brides

A gazebo wouldn't really qualify. A chupah is not supposed to be a permanent standing structure. It's supposed to be temporary. That's why so many people do poles with a nice tapestry or cloth stretched out across the top.

Hope that helps!

Re: Jewish Brides

Shelly - What fantastic news!!!!!!! Did she say why? I'm very interested in the Kabbalah, but I've never had much opportunity to study it.

(Really though, it's a great day to get married because it's OUR day, right? )

Not necessarily true - we checked with my cantor and he said it was absolutely fine and qualified as a chuppah.
