Re: Jewish Brides
Hi Princess, I know who Mickee is. I have seen her work. I am sure that whichever you picked it is beautiful!

Re: Jewish Brides
hi-
can someone send me the information for Rabbi Alan Block? I am having a really hard time finding a rabbi, so any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks!

Re: Jewish Brides
I have a question. How many of you are including the custom where the bride circles the groom 7 times at the beginning of the ceremony? I have decided to do it, but I was curious about everyone else.

Re: Jewish Brides
I thought about circling the groom 7 times as well. However, I have a really long train and veil, so the rabbi didn't think it would work too well. I love the custom though!

Re: Jewish Brides
We are using Colonial Florist. My FH's family has used them for affairs in the past, and they are their regular, every day florist. I'm working with Claudio, the owner. He really knows his stuff and is a pleasure to deal with. Just be prepared to sit and talk to him for a long time the first time you go there. His prices are much more reasonable than Stefan's, which I also looked at, and his flowers are gorgeous!

I am also working with Claudio.the Mickee kettubah we are having is blue and purple with stars and Jeruslaem in the background in the bottom. It talks about winter turning into spring. I will try to locate it online. been preoccupied. We got our Kettubah matted at Stu Art , it came out beuatiful! Today we ordered blinds for the living room, kitchen and dining room, and this week we ordered a new kitchen table. I am so excited... just had to share!!!

I will be doing this tradition. My mom will be holding my train so I can circle my fh.

We are not doing the circle thing either, although our Rabbi did bring it up to us as an option.

Re: Jewish Brides
I originally didn't think I was going to circle. My mom didn't, and my sister didn't, but after talking to the Rabbi about the meaning of it, my FH and I decided we wanted to incorporate this tradition into our ceremony. I have read many different interpretations, but our Rabbi told me that the original reason for the circling is because G-d created women on a higher spiritual plane than men. By circling the groom, the bride is creating the spiritual protection around the marriage. As far as the Bedeken, we are not having a public one. Brad will veil me in private though, following the Ketubah signing.

I was once told that circling is a Cohain thing. We are both Israelites, plus we are reformed so we are not doing it.

princess what is auf ruf?
An Auf Ruf literally means 'Calling up'. On the Shabbos before the wedding, the groom is called to the torah for an aliah, or honor. He makes a blessing before and after a section of the torah portion is read. In some reform congregations, the bride is also called up to the torah.

I have never about it being a Cohain thing. I am a Levi, and he is an Israelite. It is definitely more of an Orthodox custom though. We are Conservative, but traditional, and I think that part of the ceremony is beautiful, so I wanted to include it. My mom is only afraid that she's going to get dizzy following me around!!! Imagine me with a train, my mom with a short train, and FMIL in a big ballgown....it's going to be quite a scene!

Re: Jewish Brides
We're having HaKafot (the circling thing), and we're Egalitarian Reform, well, I'm Reform, he's Conservative, but I'm more religious than he is. We'll actually be circling each other. My Rabbi explained to me that the circling is also symbolic of the woman 'Staking out her prey' (LOL!) and I loved that idea. Stay away, ladies, He's MINE!
And he gets to do the same to me. We'll be taking each other out of circulation. I don't know I just like the idea. BTW, I'm Cohain, he's Israelite, but that really had very little to do with it.Welcome New Vendors
