Re: Jewish Brides

It isn't necessary. I'm an only child, and my parents aren't really interested in it, even though they technically *could* have one.

Re: Jewish Brides

Starting to get nervous, my Auf Ruf is next weekend. I am so nervous that I am going to say the alyah wrong, and also nervous of having everyone throw candy at us. I am lately freaking out about a lot of things! Glad Fh is tall and he knows Hebrew well.

Re: Jewish Brides

Your parents certainly don't have to do a Mazinka if they don't want to. I am the last child to get married, and we are doing one.

Princess, don't worry - the auf ruf will be great, and just duck from the flying candy!

FH and I are going to look for Ketubahs now, so I'll let you gals know what we pick out!!

Jackie

Re: Jewish Brides

LOL, you're not a bad Jew!

I was known as 'Super Jew' growing up (I grew up in CT - no other Jews around) and I used to get all the academic awards in Religious School. I had never heard of mazinkas either, until there was an accidental one at my MoH's wedding last June!

Are you really getting married in 2005, or is it this year? We're close to being wedding twins!!!

Also:

YAY JACKIE!!!!

Re: Jewish Brides

Hi Girls
I am getting married at Temple Chaverim in Plainview which is the same caterers as Oceanside and East Meadow Jewish Centers. I have a mozinka question...who makes the wreaths? the florist? my FH parents want this and I had never heard of it. Does the band need to play certain music for it? Any recommendations? When during the reception does it occur? During the horah? Thanks!

I don't know much about it, but my florist was going to make me one if I wanted it.

Temple Chaverim is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! My cousin had her Bat Mitzvah there, and it was fantastic. Also, my friend is the Student Cantor there. Your wedding is going to be beautiful!

Re: Jewish Brides

As the other girls said, your parents don't have to do a mizinka if they don't want to- it's an honor for them but only if they want it. No big deal really- I've only actually seen it done at conservative & more religous weddings. If you do have one, the florist makes the wreaths for you.

Jax- your ketubah is georgous! congrats! We're working on our's now.

Re: Jewish Brides

I don't think it's as typical, but I have seen it done. It's really all up to you. We aren't doing it, but many people do it if they have a lot of non Jews at their wedding so that all the rituals are explained.

Re: Jewish Brides

i asked my mom if she wants the Mizinka. My dad passed away 7 years ago and my mom is not sure she can handle it by herself. If she does, I would like to do it. Everyone dancing around her- she deserves the honor.
